I was a little hesitant to pull on red tie to open cube but cube opened albeit a little reluctantly. I found that filling cube with water expanded it more easily than pulling red tie. Cube plastic thickness seems decent and all three cubes I ordered are currently leak free. My application uses cubes outdoors filled with water through winter season. I will see how long they last - hopefully multiple years. It works well because the opening in close to the edge so I can fit the output spout into it without any problem.I have used 5 gallon versions of similar containers for long term emergency water transport and storage. They are convenient and rugged.
