The 3.6qt bowl is 10 1/2" across the top. I think the 3.6 qt would be great size for reasonable sized salads. **Q: If you bake bread in this, will it stick? Should you grease the bowl first? Will it really safely withstand heat up to 450 degrees?** A: It does withstand the heat, but as far as baking bread in it, I have no idea. From my experience with bread, I always butter my bread pans. I would assume you would in this as well. **Q: Could these be used inside an electric pressure cooker?** A: Doubtful. First, it is very very big with flared sides. I wanted something other than mason jars for my sourdough starter that wouldn't take up too much space. I was afraid to order them based on reviews making them sound way too thin. When they arrived, I was surprised by how thick and sturdy they seemed. Sure, they are glass, so we need to be careful with them! But I expected them to be super thin. First I ordered pyrex because of these reviews. But the shape of pyrex wasn't right for me (and the Pyrex bowls were awkward to stack!), so I returned them and ordered these. They are almost as thick as the pyrex. The only downside is there is nothing written anywhere on them, which makes me suspect they are not actually MADE in Europe. Maybe when they say "crafted" they mean designed?
