I am an African American women. I have very curly hair and have to wet it down daily in order for a comb to manage my very thick hair. I found that this brush did not work any better than the brush that I had purchased from the local dollar general store before I purchased this. But because I paid so much money for this brush I tried to take care of it and I kept it for 1 year without letting it drop onto anything. However one of my daughter borrowed the brush without permission. She stated that the brush fell onto the bathroom floor. Then the brush shattered into small pieces after only one drop. I cannot even superglue the brush back together because I feel that I will not work well afterward. This product is not worth the extra money it cost compared to other brushes. by the way I had to go back to using a long teeth rake for my thick, curly, and long hair. The rake seem to work better and faster for me. I have very long, thick hair and it works great for getting out tangles or just going through my hair.I wear my hair in braids all the time. It is quite a chore to take down and brush through especially since I have fibromyalgia and it is hard for me to keep my arms up for very long.My hair goes down past the middle of my back when it is unbraided. When I take it out of my braids, it is a sight to behold. I have hair sticking out probably 20 inches from my head.This brush actually goes through my hair and doesn't pull all of it out like my other brushes do when I am brushing it after taking it down from braids.It is quite a large brush. The paddle is 3 inches across.
