The view is pretty good too. Not perfect but very good for the money - certainly fit for purpose. The scales are are not just painted on, they are etched in deeply enough not to wear off and are nice and clear. The imperial and metric scales make it a good choice. I bought it for the shed to look at the teeth on my hand saws and the edges of plane irons and chisels. I didn't like the idea of moving my head around sharp edges - you just never know. With this, I can can place the base on the respective edge and move my head closer knowing that I have the loupe between my head and eye and the sharp edge. The scales make it so that I can count the teeth per inch on fine saws and the 5x magnification offers good depth of field and plenty enough magnification. To protect the tool edges, I have carefully placed some thin electrical tape on the base. A good buy.
