Should be 12 to 18 inches above stove and a damper should be in place between the stove and the Magic Heat. **Q: Are They Safe????** A: Yes and No! they are safe if it does not cool off the exhaust too much. you need a certain amount of hot gas to reduce creosote build up. if you typically have a hot fire then its OK. Also look into purchasing powders or logs, search for creosote remover. I measured 400 degrees before the unit and 215 degrees after the unit so it does work to capture the heat that would otherwise go up in smoke. Just pay attention to the creosote - if that is a potential concern. **Q: My heat reclaimer xonstantly runs. Is thsre a reset switch?** A: No. But the one I have has a toggle switch that toggles it from running all the time to only run when it gets hot (auto). This switch may be bad or the bimetal thermal switch inside needs replaced. **Q: How does the soot scraper work?** A: Cool room air enters through the vents and is pushed through circular tubes. Hot flu gases heat these tubes. The heated air exits the tubes circulating the room. When you push the scraper in and out, it scraps the tubes free of soot that would otherwise build up. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - bonus heat *by R***B on Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2012* I have an old wood stove and a short stack so I don't have a problem with the flue temperature getting to cold and building up creasote. Newer more efficient stoves shouldn't use this. For an old stove - this is a way to make it a little more efficient. I'd estimate getting a third more heat out of it. Before the reclaimer the flue temperature can be 500 degrees, after the reclaimer the flue temperature is 350. If I could improve it, I would find a quiet fan. A variable speed fan controlled by temperture would be - just right. If your wood stove does not have electrical power to operate the fan then this will not work as intended. The unit can be ruined by getting to hot. And that was only if we were shivering in front of the stove. Now I start a fire, turn on the reclaimer and start feeling hot air blowing within minutes.
