**Q: To take the bottom half off, is there also a side zipper to prevent having to take your shoes off?**
A: No

**Q: Can you remove the belt to replace it with your own?**
A: Yes, and I recommend removing belt if placing in a dryer.  Not as noisy with the plastic smashing around inside the drum.

**Q: do these have bottom hem zippers?,..fabric cold feeling when cold out?**
A: No, there are no bottom hem zippers.  The fabric feels no colder than jeans when it is cold out.  And when it is really, really cold, wearing two pairs of pants is remarkably warm.  I learned this trick when I was traveling and  had only  2 pairs of pants.  The fabric is very wind resistant, and wearing two pair of these guys traps an insulating layer of air between the inner and outer pants.

Great pants overall, I find them very comfortable, lightweight, very good for just lounging around the house, and especially great for summertime, outdoor activities, hiking, etc. I've been wearing these pants for years. However, the mesh pockets on a couple of mine were the first thing to wear out and develop holes a little sooner than I would have liked, when otherwise the pants were still totally wearable (the pants were less than two years old). Also, the company has gotten cheap with the belt loops... these pants used to have 7 loops, with 2 in front, 2 on the forward side, 2 on the side farther back, and 1 in back center, but they've dropped the 2 on the forward side. This leaves a bit of a gap between the front loops and the 2 on the side but farther back. They still hold the belt reasonably well, but the belt can easily fall out (slip thru the front loop) when not buckled. I know I'm being fussy but I liked them better with 7 belt loops.
