Biogravel is a completely new concept for filtration and is essentially a gravel made of sintered glass with a wide range of uses. The latest development from Biohome, Biogravel is the ideal substrate for your tanks. It will not increase the pH value, supports the growth of zooplankton and is the perfect playground for shrimp. With a porosity of approx. 42% performance at a similar level to the Biohome Standard and Biohome Plus with the added advantage that it is small enough to be used in very tight spaces. The most obvious place for biogravel is as a substrate in aquariums that have a lower gravel system where it acts not only as a substrate, but also as an effective filter medium. The Biogravel can be easily cleaned with gravel cleaner (when used as a substrate) or by vigorous tearing off in the water during tank maintenance. For best nitrate reduction, use approx. 1 kg per 100 litres of aquarium water for a normal filled tank or 1.5 kg - 2 kg per 100 litres for a heavily filled tank. Since all Biohome media are inert, you can raise or lower the pH value for certain fish species without having a buffer effect.
