The nutrition department looked up the code (the number above the bar code) and verified it is indeed from China. In the past it stated "Made in the USA. I will not be buying this brand again. **Q: is this the "R" form or the "S" form of ALA?** A: This is the racemic mixture, and contains 50% R (the biologically active) and 50% S (useless, but maybe not harmful). If it were enantiomerically pure R form, you can bet they'd advertise that on the label. The racemic mixture is cheap to make. 250mg racemic mixture = 125mg biologically active R form. These days, several companies are selling pure R alpha lipoic acid, aka RALA, but it is more than twice as expensive as an equal (biologically active) amount of the racemic mixture. **Q: What is it** A: I bought it as a complement in my diabetic II treatement.
