Has internal ball bearings. Very easy to roll. For a relatively small roller it was a lot heavier (in weight) than I had expected. I consider that a plus for use on level surfaces. The wheel itself appears to be made of plain steel that's not rust-resistant. This probably will not be a problem for my applications, but it may for others. It would have been great if they offered the same model with a stainless steel wheel -- and stainless steel all of the other parts of this roller as well. You would need our model number MR02130 which is a 2 X 2 steel roller with single fork or MR02090 which is a 2 x 4 steel roller with double forks. **Q: Is the roller on a bearing and if so, is the bearing sealed? I plan on having it soaked in a bath and don't want grease getting into the bath.** A: The roller is on high quality, nearly frictionless steel bearings. They appear to be ball bearings, not roller bearings. The bearings are not sealed against liquid entry. This worked just fine! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great roller needs better packaging *by B***E on November 25, 2019* This is a high-quality product. Very sturdy, heavy, and well made. Extremely smooth bearings. I expect it to last a long time. My only complaint is that the packaging is inadequate. The roller is packaged in a simple thin plastic bag. Amazon ships it in a simple yellow envelope that is incapable of padding such a heavy object. As the envelope is thrown around during shipment the roller is damaged and the bag is torn. It was last thrown onto my concrete steps, denting the roller and cutting the bag open. You can blame Amazon shipping for not adding bubble wrap. And you can blame the Amazon delivery person for not being more careful with such an obviously heavy item. But in the end, the manufacturer should spend 5 cents and wrap the roller in bubble wrap before placing it in the plastic bag.
