Chance's are under normal travel conditions it will hold fast as needed, but hey, it's not bolted **Q: What is the largest diameter screwdriver shaft this will hold?** A: One with a shaft about 1/4 In diameter **Q: If you cut this holder, can the plastic end caps be put back on? This holder is too long for the side of my tool box!!** A: The caps can be removed and replaced, they are tight, but a drop of glue if your worried upon replacement. The unit has a soft covering on the bottom that also needs to be cut before you remove the cap. In my case my drawers are ever so slightly less than 16 1/2 inch. The metal part of this is right at 16 1/2 inch. The caps add about 1/4 inch. So I just ground it off by just enough to fit my drawer. I didn't get into the magnet, that may be hard to cut without cracking. BTW, I left my drawer liners in and it grabs strong enough to remove the smaller screw drivers but the largest few fit really tight and you need to place your thumb on the unit to pull them out.
