These tongs are probably the ideal length for most people. They are long enough to get you a decent distance away from the heat source, but not so long that you lose control. The scalloped shaped edges provide enough of a point to grab on to food but are curved enough to not pierce it or tear it apart by accident. The base of the handles are reasonably heat resistant so you shouldn't burn yourself (I never have), and because of the length you won't need to wear any kind of protective glove unless you are standing at the heat source constantly. The locking mechanism works and it works well. It is simple and effective and still does its job after years of use. Finally, while I could not find any specific information about it, I have always thrown it in the dishwasher and it has come out just fine for four years now.While I always try to point out any real flaws or problems with a product, this one just doesn't have any that I can think of. If you are in the market for a great set of tongs for your grill or home, this is an excellent pair to buy. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Broken Tongs *by M***L on Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2020* This set of tools is extremely sturdy and shows good build quality with one VERY notable exception. The spring and locking mechanism of the tongs makes my set functionally useless.Instead of winding a spring the width of the riveted pin that connects the tong arms and incorporating a pull-lock into the handle (like many other models) these tongs have a combination mechanism which bridges the riveted-pin with a small spring and a bulky plastic shim.On my set of tongs this pin is bent and prevents the springs from allowing the tongs to remain open AND prevents the shim from allowing the tongs to lock closed.As such, unless I choose to replace the rivet, replace the spring, and abandon the locking function I essentially have a piece of aluminum scrap.Very disappointing. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Sliding Lock sticks and binds up *by L***L on Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2010* Note that every review so far (Nine of them) like this product.So keep that in mind when you read my review ... I must have gotten one that slipped by quality.And if you purchase these, there is a good chance you will get a five star product...BUT IT IS NOT my fault that they gave me a pair that sticks so please do not bad mouth me too much :), but my info is why you are here so I owe it to you to give the truth.The sliding lock sticks and binds up when trying to lock the tongs in the closed position.I poured cooking oil on the moving parts and that seemed to help a little bit.Also since the sliding lock sticks, the rubber piece is coming loose and sliding about, showing a lot of metal.If I keep it, I will pull on the rubber exposing the metal underneath and add some contact cement to the metal and then slide the rubber back over top of it.When these tongs are layed side by side next to my Oxo tongs, they are 98% compatible in just about every way. (Except the slot on the sliding lock is NOT AS WIDE as on the OXO.
