It does look more permanent, but unfolds like a giant umbrella. It has weathered several Michigan storms in the two years we’ve owned it. Highly recommend attaching sand bags or weights to corners for high winds. It is easy to take down and put up, takes up little room to store (about 4’ x 2’ x 2’). It’s a great gazebo with good customer service if you have questions! **Q: Does the gazebo remain dry underneath in the rain? Specs say fabric is “water resistant”; also wondered if rain came in through the vent.** A: No. The vented top allows rain in, and there are also grommets near the base of the larger top piece that do a good job of keeping water from collecting but also allow water inside. Not a solution if you're looking for this to keep you dry. **Q: Do I have to put the covering on and off each time I use it or will it fold with the supports to be put back in the case?** A: Thanks for the question, the cover can fold with supports/frames together and put back in the carry bag. We decided to take the plunge on this one due to the fact that it can be folded and stored, and of course the price was right. It's big, sturdy, good looking, and was relatively easy to set up. That said, let's just say the instructions were … sorta vague and there were a few things we had to figure out on our own that weren't even hinted at in the manual. But that's all water under the bridge now. It looks great and we're all ready for summer. Edited to add: the fabric portion of the canopy lasted just past the warranty date. We started noticing some rips and when we went to inspect them found that the fabric was brittle and just came apart like tissue paper. I'm only knocking the review down by 1 star since we had the thing up in gale-force winds and the infamous 2023 California rainy winter. In the end it withstood all that stuff only to rot from sun exposure.
