Had seen this used in marine environments on boats and swim platforms and decided to try it for a teak shelf unit in our shower. It goes on really easy and we waited 5 minutes like the instructions indicated and wiped down the excess. It looks great and beads the water from the shower. I see this protecting not only the wood but keeping that nice teak color from graying as quickly. I did not notice any strange smells or issues with application which I did in our garage. We let it dry thoroughly before placing it inside. I highly recommend this product. We only used a small amount on a three shelf unit about 12 x 12 x 41 inches. 16oz will last us a very long time! Update 2024: 6 years later and I still like the product and I still have the same bottle! Works great and a little goes a long way! The shower shelf has lasted all this time since 2018 and finally got to the point where it will not restore to natural teak color. This shelf was in a shower used several times a day and I took the shelf out every 6-12 months before it started to turn gray and reapplied Teak Oil. Last couple years I would power wash to remove the 'junk' from being wet and apply teak oil. Now I can't get the color back and shelf is too difficult to sand with all the crevices and slits in the shelving so we bought another one. I don't like the natural gray color but do like the wood color of teak so we just deal with it and put on more Teak Oil than some might think necessary. (Used to do this to an old swim platform on a Master Craft boat too!) One things to mention, if near or around water, teak will want to naturally gray no matter what you do. If you don't like that, you might should think about another wood or go with something that looks like teak. You can fight it all you want with this oil, but eventually the natural graying will take over and usually sanding is necessary to get it back. Recommendation: If in a shower, take it out every 6 months/clean/apply more teak oil. If an outside table/patio set, you should probably put this stuff on more frequently than you might think to the parts that face the sun/rain. I'd check it every couple months and apply when you think it does not need it (note, some covers hold moisture from the wood so it will speed up graying). With table, different strategy, washed and let dried twice then using light sanding paper sanded the dried table top, sides & legs. I will uses this on raw wood.** A: I use Teak Oil on natural teak. The wood gets a whitish patina when left untreated with oil. The oil seems to cover or remove the patina, allowing the natural color to show. If you don't like the appearance (I do) all you have to do is wait until the oil washes off and the wood will have the same appearance as before. **Q: What's the differnce between this brand and the wadco brand for half the price?** A: I used both Watco and Star Brite on a set of 4 hairs teak chairs that were very weathered. I cleaned them all with the Star Brite clieaner first, which did a great job. My goal with the teak oil was to replace the natural oil that had leached out over the years. Without that oil, the wood absorbed rain water and was starting to split from the wet dry cycles. The Star Brit is thinner and really soaked in. 1 quart gave me 2 coats on one chair and a start on a second chair. My wife then got the Watco, so I used it on the rest of the chairs. Its much thicker and doesn't soak in nearly as much. One quart id 3 chairs. It colors the wood a lot more, which I didn't want. I wish I had used only Star Brite. It does a better job of penetrating deeply into the wood and truly reconditioning it. The Watco is more of a surface finish, giving quick, superficially pretty results. I don't think its nearly as good for rejuvenating severely weathered, dried wood. May it'g work best for preserving newer teak, but I wouldn't recommend it on old teak. **Q: How much product do you typically use for let's say a large outdoor dining table? I'm oiling my outdoor furniture for the first time. Thanks!** A: I am in the process of redoing a 5 piece dinning set. It's 4 chairs and a table. I ran out of both the oil and the cleaner/brightener. If yours is as large as mine I recommend using the 32oz or even larger. Could even get the gallon size for the oil if you need more than one coat like my set does. **Q: How often do you have to reapply? I have a teak shower seat and use another product but it seems to only last about a week...** A: You reapply as needed and as you so fit with the appearance of the teak.
