The thickness seems just right. It comes in 1 solid piece which you can then trim to size. But, SIZE WAY, WAY UP! Pick the size you think is at the very largest end of the spectrum within reason that you think may fit. Then consider going up just one more. I bought this to wear on top of a gauze-bandaged chronic wound on my lower leg. I've been wearing this kind of fabric bandage over the gauze dressing for a while and like how this style bandage keeps the gauze bandage all in place while helping some to prevent swelling. This is a good brand, not sure the length of piece you get is really worth $17, but ok. I was able to cut it into 3 bandages for my lower leg. I wound up cutting each piece down even more, because the tightness was so uncomfortable I couldn't bear the intense pressure on my leg. Based off the reviews, I did size up and had bought what I thought was a size or maybe even 2 sizes bigger than what I'd need, but I should've gone up at least one more.Sizing up just one or two levels would provide an excellent compression stocking/bandage, but I can't do compression right now because the wound is still painful. None of the other fabric bandages I'd been using ever started out this tight. After several washings this bandage is starting to stretch out some, but I still may try returning what I got because they're still too tight and I honestly think the sizing chart is super off. Because of what I spend on medical supplies I don't have the kind of budget to buy something I can't use. The seller seems very nice, and sent friendly follow up emails etc. after the item had shipped. I haven't contacted them because I'm not sure it's worth returning at this point. But they do seem like a great company.Just view this bandage as a tight compression one if bought in the suggested size. If you go up at least 2, probably 3 sizes you should be fine if all you want is a general fabric bandage with some support. When I voiced my disappointment, the company contacted me and bent over backwards to make it right. They changed the description on the website to show that you will receive two pieces. The product is high quality and is made of cotton. I noticed when I was looking for this product that most of these bandages are not made of cotton and other reviewers were looking for cotton. This is also one of the few companies that offer this product in a small quantity, which was perfect for me.
