Review: Banana for scale!! - The bento is made of wood, with two compartments that can fit a traditional Japanese bento lunch, but it may be a bit small for western diets. This is NOT leakproof. The compartments have some depth to them. The bottom compartment does not have a lid, the top piece is notched to fit into place. The bento had a wooden smell that went away after a wash with warm soapy water. The divider does not fit snugly in the compartments, but it is suitable to keep ingredients apart as long as there is no sauce or liquid. It is more a special occasion bento instead of an everyday lunchbox. It is a very pretty piece. I am pleased with my purchase. Edit: a wooden fork and spoon were also included. Very nice and polished utensils. They are too pretty for me to want to use.

Very distinguish lunch box. The box, however, does leak. BUT it is a practical lunch box that gets the job done. It does have a woody aftertaste that absorbs into the food, but after a few washes and letting it airdry from the package usually gets the smell away.
