## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work with 2012 Prius v wagon?**
A: It should...when you buy this the seller will program the unit and put custom install instructions in the box just for your car model. When you install it make sure to disconnect the regular battery and the Hybrid battery by pulling the disconnect...put the hybrid battery back on first then the regular battery or the car will go bonkers until you do it in that order.

**Q: Has anyone done this with a 2004-2009 model?**
A: Yes I did and it worked.

**Q: How do you find out which version of this will work on 2007?**
A: Yes it does on the 2011,,,no clue on the 2007

**Q: Easy install. Although my car shuts back off after 10 minutes. Any ideas? Great product though.**
A: It is supposed to shut off after 10 minutes as a safety feature. This way if it accidentally gets started, your car is not running for hours. 10 minutes has always been more than sufficient to warm mine up.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Installing the remote start unit.
*by N***N on May 26, 2018*

Prius remote start installBy DON M. on May 23, 2018Verified PurchaseWorks as described but here are some tips to make it really easy. There are some other good suggestions here as well.Overview. Installed on a 2014 Toyota Prius v five w/ATP.1. The box includes the T Harness dongle with the ODB2 connector. It has a blue connector that plugs into the start unit. The start unit is flashed with the latest software prior to shipping.2. You will only use 3 wires from the harness that goes from the remote start unit to the wires from the ECU. That harness has a red connector to match the red port on the remote start unit. It is the only connector that will fit in the unit's red port. The other 3 bundles of wires just put aside, they will not be used. My car also had a few more couplings at the ECU. They have to do with my Advanced Technology Package. Aside from that, everything aligned with the directions, and photos from other reviewers.3. Most of the instructions do not apply to the remote start install. They only apply if you are installing additional units and features.4. The wiring diagram shows the wires by location with a number, and on a separate page, by their color. The instructions are clear as to which wires to use when you match up the wiring diagram picture with the physical ECU connector.5. Do not touch the reset button on the start unit. It should work straight out of the box. (In case you do, the correct setting is Option 1=2, 2=1, 3=1).Installation:1. Disconnect battery negative terminal located in the back right fender2. Remove the cover on the left drivers side, below the air vent. This cover is the one which hosts up to 4 buttons and will give you access to the ECU.It is easy. Pry off using a putty knife. There’s no need to remove the button wiring, just let the cover hang down. This is the only cover you will need to pry off.3. Once this is off, you can see the ECU. There are 4 wiring modules in the ECU lined up vertically in 2 rows. The connector you need is the one on the top right. You will see two connectors there; one above of the other. You want the top one. It has a white clip you press to release. Unplug it. The wiring diagram says you will be viewing from the "wire side," looking at the connector as if it was still plugged in. My wires were purple, yellow and green from that ECU harness. The wiring diagram will tell you which wires to splice into the ECU wires. You only use 3 wires: parking lights, BXR, BXT Secure the rest.Red connector wire Yellow/black splice to ECU wire (4) Purple.Red connector wire Orange/black splice to ECU wire (16) Green.Red connector wire Red/black splice to ECU wire (30) Yellow. The hardest part is shaving the wires to expose bare wire to connect to. I’m sure there are many ways to do this. If you end up cutting a wire, it’s okay. You just need to splice 3 wires together instead of two. I did not cut any. You will also need to cut and remove about 2” of tubing covering the wires. This is so you’ll have enough room to remove about ¼ inch of insulation from around each wire you intend to splice. I used a small Exacto knife. Once that is done, take the 3 wires from the start unit that matches the correct 3 wires from the ECU, according to the diagram and wrap them together. Then tape them tightly with electrical tape. Others have soldered; I was just wrapped and taped.Test first.4. Once the wires are connected, test that it works. Make sure any excess wire is secured. I left the cover off until I was sure everything was working correctly. I did not get any error or warning lights on the dash. The OBD2 dongle has a long yellow wire running from the ODB2 connector. You do not need it.5. Reconnect the battery.6. Start your vehicle as normal. You should see the remote start unit light turn green for a few seconds then turn off.7. Turn off the car.8. Lock your doors. Note: make sure the trunk is closed before trying to lock your car, or you’ll get blinking red lights on the start unit.9. Then press the lock button slowly 3 times.10. You should hear the doors lock and click several times, then hopefully see your dash light up and your car start. If not, check the light on the unit and the diagram document for troubleshooting codes. Otherwise, that’s it; you’re done! The start unit requires 3 lock-clicks after the doors are locked before starting the car. The car will be is running but the doors are locked. You will need to unlock it. This is a safety precaution against someone stealing the car. Another 3 clicks and the ignition will turn off. The car will also shut off when you click to unlock the door or after the car has been running for 10 minutes. When you get in the car you will need to restart it using the start button. These are suggestions and tips only. These instructions worked for me. Use at your own risk.I love the remote start! In winter, it should defrost, warm the seats, and the interior. In the summer, it should cool down the car really nice by starting it a minute or two before getting in.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super easy, worked great. Only do it if you are comfortable shaving and crimping wires.
*by J***. on August 13, 2017*

Works as described but here are some tips to make it really easy. There are some other good suggestions here as well.i have a 2010 Prius 3.1. your instructions may say the "T Harness" is sold separately. this can be confusing as it is in the box. The T Harness is the dongle with the ODBC connector.2. you will only use 3 wires from the harness that goes from the remote start unit to the wires from the ECU. That harness has the red connection to match the red port on the remote start unit. It is the only one that will fit in the red port. the other tons of wires just put aside.3. ignore most of the instructions as they do not apply to this operation. If you are installing additional units and features then yes, they apply. if you are just installing the remote start unit to turn on and off with the factory remote by hitting the lock button 3x, then all you need is the wiring diagram.4. the wiring diagram shows the wires by location with a number not by color. don't worry it is quite clear as to what wire it is when you match up the picture with the physical ECU connector.5. Do not touch anything on the remote start unit, like the reset button. it should work straight out of the box.installation:1. disconnect battery negative terminal located in the back right fender2. pop off the cover on the left drivers side. this covers is the one which hosts the emergency brake release lever and will give you access to the ECU.It is easy. just pop up the plastic foot rail piece then remove the plastic piece that sits between the rail and the cover piece we are removing. You should see one screw to remove on the bottom of the cover piece. unscrew that and gently pull it out a little. i say a little because you need to disconnect the emergency brake cable and unplug some electric harnesses that activate the buttons on the cover.3. once this is off, you can see the ECU. The connection you need is the one farthest to the right. You will see two bigger ones one on top of the other. You want the smaller one, has a white clip and is on the right.unplug it. Now the wiring diagram says it is showing from the "wire side." This means look at the connector as if it was still plugged in. My wires were purple, yellow and green from that ECU harness. The wire diagram will tell you which wire connects to the ECU wire. Now this is the hardest part, shaving the wires to expose raw wire to connect to. I am sure there are many ways to do this. I tried a snipper to shave the coating. Did not work and ended up cutting the wire. It was ok, i just need to splice 3 wires together instead of two now. The other two went very simple. i took a small exacto knife and gently scraped and shaved about 1/4 inch of insulation from around the wire. Once that was open, i took the wire from the start unit that matched the correct wire from the ECU according to the diagram and wrapped them together then tape them tightly with electrical tape. others soldered but i was more comfortable with a wrap and tape. it works fine.4. once the wires are connected, do yourself a favor and test before you put everything back together. Make sure the wires are connected and the ODBC connector is connected. I left the covers and connection to those covers off and it was fine. i did not get any error or warning lights on the dash.BTW, mine had a yellow wire also from the ODBC connector. You do not need it.5. connect the battery6. Start your vehicle as normal. You should see the remote start unit turn green for a few seconds then turn off.7. turnoff the car.8. lcok your doors.9. then hit the lock button 3 times. i have to hit mine a little slow to work but once you get the cadence it is no big deal.10. you should hear the doors lock sand click a bunch of times then hopefully see your dash light up and started. If not, check the light on the unit and the diagram has troubleshooting codes. otherwise, that it, your done.3 lock clicks when the doors are locked and it starts. another 3 clicks and it will turn off.The car will stop when you open the door. I am sure this is a safety precaution against stealing the car. The car is started but you will not be able to drive it, when you get in the car you will need to start it again from the button as usual. These are suggestions and tips only. I am not guaranteeing that mine experience and comments will not harm your vehicle. Use at your own risk. My, finall thought is this. If you are comfortable shaving the insulation of the 3 wires from the EUC wiring harness to a wrap around the wire from the remote start unit, then this will be very easy for you. If you are shy with that task, then don't do it and have someone you trust assist you..hope this helps. i love mine and very glad it did it. It cools down the car really nice by just turning it on a minute or two before i get in.

### ⭐ it also mentions how easy it is to install
*by H***3 on February 16, 2018*

DO NOT Buy THIS PRODUCT! We ordered this for a Christmas gift, read the information and reviews. We did our homework. Although it says is "should" be installed by a professional, it also mentions how easy it is to install, just a few things to do. My husband has worked on cars for many years, including rebuilding an engine and a carburetor. We thought certainly that we could install this for our son and daughter in law. The reviews also make it sound like it's 1-2-3.Once we got the starter we read the instructions and they scared us to death about doing any type of installation ourself. We decided to return it and buy one from an installer- what we should have done in the first place. If you price starters and professional installation you would quickly see that the less expensive route would be to buy and install at the same place. Again, being avid Amazon customers, we trusted the vague implication that it's easy to install on our own.Maybe we were niave to think that we could do this work, but my husband has done a LOT of work on cars and has never had an issue. While listing that the item should be installed by a professional, they also implicate that it's easy to do yourself. Then once you get the package and open it they all but tell you that you're likely to mess up your car if you try it yourself and they are in no way liable. Their listing should make it clear that you should NOT try to install this yourself - loud and clear- before blasting their customers.
