There is a piece included that is not shown in a diagram, or even mentioned in the written instructions, but I finally figured it out. Basically you will have to figure it out. The instructions will not help. The diagram does not show how to use the part that cinches together the two loose ends. Each end goes in one side, facing each other. Both ends are then twisted in a little ratchet device that closes the β€œloop” and tightens the cord. This is very sturdy, and I’m thrilled with the quality. The other pulley is mounted high up the trunk of a large tree at the edge of the woods. The clothesline stretches across our yard a little over 60 feet and is ten feet off the ground. I only have to take a few steps out the back door to hang the clothes and because it is so high off of the ground it is out of the way. I purchased two more spacers to go along with the one that came with the kit. Start with placing one spacer on the lines before you start hanging and the one every ten feet or so to keep the line from sagging. You will need to tighten the line with the winch tightener after the first few uses as the line will stretch a bit when first set up. The kit comes with 150 feet of wire so you could go longer then the sixty feet that we did. Plastic? steel? aluminum? what are the parts? etc.** A: I don't own the Strata, but I do own the Lehman's. I bought it a decade ago. When one pulley broke some years afterward, I bought a larger (8") pulley from Lehman's, and it was made in China, despite its being advertised as made in Canada (I assume this was in a brief window when Lehman's was switching suppliers). When the remaining Lehman pulley broke this month, I wanted another 8" pulley (which I strongly recommend: the bigger pulley makes a huge difference in how easily the clothesline glides). I looked at Lehman's for a replacement, but I found one that was a little cheaper (factoring in the mailing charge) at a store called The Clothesline Shop (clotheslineshop.com). It's a tiny family-run business in Maine, but what arrived (and arrived quickly) was an industrial-strength zinc pulley made in Canada, and it makes Lehman's version look rinky-dink in comparison. The Clothesline Shop has the whole setup, too (pulleys, line, winch, etc.). I'd compare that shop's product with Lehman's if I were you. Believe me, it's no fun at all to pick your freshly washed laundry off the ground because a pulley broke. **Q: Where is this manufactured ?** A: It is made in China Canadian company sells it Clearly states on the box it is made in China **Q: Is this something that can be taken down when not doing laundry and put back up easily? or is it more work than you would want to do every time?** A: If you wanted to take it down there would be even more time involved than installing it in the first place. You would have to slacken the winch, which is no mean feat and a bit dangerous....unhook each end from the hooks, wrap it all up, store away, then reverse this processs every time.....it's the kind of thing you would only want to do for some very special reason.
