Review: This saw is phenomenal! - "YOU SPENT HOW MUCH ON A SAW?!?!?!" "Sit down, and let me tell you a little story..." Why did i choose to spend 2-3X more than other table saws with similar features? 1. The Stop part of the SawStop. I like to pretend that the brake mechanism isn't even there. I treat it like any other dangerous thing and pretend that safeties are useless. With that said, I, like many people these days, have a high deductible insurance plan. If i have a trip to the ER because I accidentally shoved my hand into the saw, i'll be, at a minimum, out $6000 and possibly a hand. So I spent $2500 in hopes of not spending $6000. There are folks out there who complain that if the brake deploys, you are out the cost of the blade and the brake. While this is true, how much is the average ER visit again? Probably more that $2500. "But the Bosch saw is able to stop the blade without destroying it!" Then go buy the Bosch, im sure its a great saw-- but dont complain when you find ways that it has been value engineered. Theres no value engineering here!! 2. The build quality. Ok... despite the "Made in America" labels everywhere... almost everything was made in China. It was assembled in the USA. That said, this saw is over engineered in so many places! The mechanism that holds the blade, motor, and tilt mechanism is just beautiful. The brake mechanisms are made of hard plastic and are very easy to swap out. I only wish they came with DB9 covers for when you are not using one (the standard brade is unused when the dado brake is in use). I certainly hope they remembered to protect them from ESD since they dont come with covers. My dry, dusty workshop is an ESD generator if ever there was one. 3. Customer Support I cant say enough to this point. So i'll give you my experience with them... The blade / miter slot alignment was slightly out (0.007" vs the 0.001" that its supposed to be). This is a pretty simple fix, given the VERY well written manual, however, i was having trouble loosening a bolt. I was scared that i was going to shear the head off. So I called them up for some advice. Their tech was very helpful. He went and explained my problem to one of their engineers and came back to tell me to just use a cheater bar. I explained that i was concerned about shearing the bolt and he said, "i dont think you will, but if you do, call me back and we'll get it fixed". Fortunately, it didnt break-- although it was really, really tight. It was very good piece-of-mind knowing that if i did break it, they were going to help make it right. 4. The instruction manual No, i didnt buy the saw for the manual, but it gets a shout out because it is so well written. I cant tell you how many pieces of expensive equipment i have purchased at work (like a $80,000 lightning generator) which came with abysmal documentation. Not the SawStop! The manual is very thorough and explains everything that you might ever need to do to the saw. It uses pictures where necessary and small words for the non-mechanically inclined. Seriously, even if you dont want to buy the saw, check out the manual. Its available on their website. 5. Assembly Obviously they arent shipping you a 52", 500 pound fully assembled saw in the mail. Instead they send you a bunch of boxes, which when assembled still weighs 500lbs. All of the nuts, bolts, washers, things, doodads, etc come in well labeled, color-coded blister packs. The assembly instructions are written as well as the manual. I'd venture that if you have never assembled anything before in your life, and had limited reading skills, you could probably still assemble this saw. It really feels like SawStop went out and got Cousin Randy, who has limited cognitive abilities, and left him in a room with a boxed saw on a pallet and no tools and said, "Cousin Randy, we need you to put this saw together. If you do, we'll give you a 12 pack of Colt 45 Malt Liquor". They then proceeded to watch Cousin Randy attempt to build the saw. Anywhere Cousin Randy got confused, they updated their manual to make it clearer. Im sure at some point Cousin Randy said, "well, um, you shipped the saw on its side, how am i supposed to get it upright?"... yeah they though of that... you seriously dont need any tools or helpers to get it assembled (although an additional person to help lift stuff isnt a bad plan). 6. The fence I feel like the fence really epitomizes all of the precision work that went into every part of this saw. The fence is made of steel. It locks at the front only. this makes for a very rigid fence that doesnt move around on you as you are locking it down. Out of the box it requires almost not adjusting. I did notice that the fence is "wavy" by as much as 0.01" (about 2-3 sheets of paper) across the entire fence, but so far, i havent seen any issue with this though. In conclusion, yes, its a very expensive saw. But what you get is a saw designed by people who really genuinely want to put out the best product they can. Stack on a safety device that will keep your fingers attached and you really can't lose.
Review: Excellent quality - I purchased the SawStop cabinet saw 2 months ago. It replaced my Powermatic 64 contractor saw which I was very happy with. The main reason to purchase the SawStop was for safety reason since my young son is interested in woodworking. I purchases a "used" one listed by desertcart Warehouse". The saw arrived on the scheduled delivery date as promised. It came as 4 separate packages all of which can be carried by one person except for the cabinet itself --- you will need 3 people to carry it into your shop. The saw was excellently packaged. To my surprise, the SawStop was brand new (sold as used through desertcart Warehouse) and in original packaging. It was sold as "used" because it was returned by the previous customer in unopened condition. There was absolutely no damage to the saw and everything was packed well. Assembly of the saw took several hours and can be done by one person. It is pretty straight forward to assemble. The instruction manual is well written and in color with diagrams and pictures. Most of tools needed for assembly are included with the saw. The cast iron top is flat and smooth, solid and heavy. The quality of all of the components is excellent. The wheels are so smooth and easy to turn when adjusting the blade. The riving knife is super easy to remove and adjust. The fence is pretty flat (about 0.003" off) and glides smoothly across the top and easy to adjust. The blade was parallel to the miter slot (off by only 0.002"). When I turned the saw on for the first time, I was surprised on how smooth and quiet it was compared to my old saw. There is absolutely no vibration when you turn the saw on/off or when running it. The dust collection is good using the standard Micro blade guard (better than my old saw) but not perfect. I have ordered the Micro dust guard and will see if that improves the dust collection. The saw did come with a SawStop blade as well which I did not use. I purchased Freud Thin Kerf combination blade instead (P410T) which is an amazing blade and at a great price. My prior blade was Forrest Woodworker II (not thin kerf). I used 3/4" maple as my test piece using both blades. The Freud cuts the maple like butter with absolutely no burning or binding. The Forrest cuts well as well except the feeding rate is much slower with some minor burns. I would recommend that you purchase Freud thin kerf which is 1/2 the price of Forrest WWII and performs even better. I have attached a Bench Dog Cast Iron Router Table (ProMax -102) to the right side SawStop extension wing and it fit perfectly (except the wholes on the front and back of Bench Dog do not match the holes on SawStop Rails). The Promax Cast Iron table quality is good but not as good as SawStop cast iron top. It is however, very practical for a small shop like mine. If you have any questions, send me an email.

## Features

- 52-INCH T-GLIDE FENCE ASSEMBLY: The 52-inch T-Glide Fence & Rail are made of heavy-gauge steel for sure lockdown and reliably square cutting for years without deflection.
- SAWSTOP PATENTED SAFETY SYSTEM: Stops a spinning blade on contact with skin. The blade stops in less than 5 milliseconds, and drops below the table, minimizing a potentially life-altering injury to a mere scratch.
- UNMATCHED QUALITY: The trunnion and arbor are built for precision, strength and stability. The gas piston elevation delivers smooth and easy adjustability. Table flatness is measured diagonally at 0.010” maximum gap.
- DUST COLLECTION: 99% dust collection is delivered above the table with the available dust collection blade guard (Model # TSG-DC, sold separately), and below the table with advanced shrouding around the blade. Available Overarm Dust Collection (Model # TSA-ODC, sold separately) routes dust away from the blade and into the 4” port.
- RELIABILITY: The Control Box houses the on-off switch, power paddle, and on-board computer, and constantly checks that all systems are working to reliably keep you safe.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why is it $250 more on Amazon than on SawStop?**
A: $250 is exactly how much SawStop charges for shipping. So, it's the same price...

**Q: Is the 1.75 hp big enough to rip hardwood with out bogging it down ?**
A: I do wish that I had paid a little more for the 3HP model. When cutting 8/4 hardwoods, I did experience some burning and the slow feed rate had me raising the blade all the way up and pushing the stock through with quite a bit of force (not very safe). I ended up buying a good quality thin kerf blade and the SawStop 2mm riving knife and have no complaints.

**Q: Can I mount a Milwaukee 5616-24 Router into this tablesaw somehow? If so, what would I need to purchase or do?**
A: You need to purchase a router mounting plate from someone like bench dog. You could cut an opening in the extension table top or buy a cast iron wing from someone else that has a mounting plate built in it. Do a quick Google search and you'll find all kinds of options. The saw is amazing though so good luck

**Q: What is the difference between the 30" fence system and fence system on the extended saws?**
A: I recently got the 30" fence. Debated going to 36 for the t-glide, but I really don't have the space for it. I have no regrets. I'm an amature and only using the saw a few hours/wk. I was able to align the left side of fence to miter slot to within 3/1000th (woodpecker's saw gauge) and cutting a 17" length of plywood was within 2/1000th top to bottom. The right side of the fence did not align as well (about 7/1000th) and there's only one adjustment so I chose to do the left side most accurately. There's a little front-back wiggle to the fence when not locked, but it is not causing a problem with accuracy. After doing 4-5 test cuts and adjusting the tape measure lens, I visually aligned 4" for that plywood cut and it measured 4.0035" - 4.0015" (top-bottom). That's close enough for me! The tape goes down to 1/64th increments, btw, so it was pretty easy to adjust the measurement.

### ⭐⭐ Safe, but lacks precision of components during manufacturing
*by S***N on August 25, 2015*

While the safety system is revolutionary and the main reason I got this table saw, I became disappointed after assembling the cast iron extension wings. Perhaps I got a dud from a manufacturing glitch, but the right cast iron extension wing has a downward bow in the middle making it impossible to level along the edge with the entire center table. If that wasn't enough, the front bevel machined along the front edge of that wing is also off (meaning it does not align with the center table's bevel when bolted because it is a different angle). The left cast iron extension wing also had a very slight bow (upwards) toward the back edge also making it impossible to level with the center table without throwing off the other end. Both of these scenarios resulted in a lip tall enough for a piece of wood to get caught on when I slid a scrap piece across the problem areas locations where the wings were bowed. Reversing the left and right table (mirror them) did not solve the problem. I tried to research the precision of what the table should have been machined to in the factory, but failed to find any specs on it. What is one to expect with this purchase? Spending so much money on a table saw like this, I expected better precision of the table and components.... Not so sure about the SawStop customer service either - I filed a request for help through SawStop's website email system to troubleshoot this issue last week, and I still have not heard a word back from them. For the money, I am starting to think it would be better to forego the safety feature for a more accurate, precise table saw that has be tried and true ,like Powermatic's.
