At 70 cm ham band (440 MHz) , WSR from this antenna goes way up and has lower efficiency than other handheld stock antennae. There is a lot of misconception and worries about antenna WSR comments/reviews here. SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) It's a measure of transmitter RF power transfer from the radio to the antenna but NOT an antenna irradiation measure! You can get an ideal WSR 1:1 radio (full transmitter power transfer) connecting a dummy load resistor of 50 ohms ( 52 ohm ) but you will have absolutely 0.00!! radiowaves irradiation from that! So stop looking and worrying about the WSR from any antenna . Let say :if the WSR is below 3.5 (30% reflected power) the handheld radio antenna is good .All handhelds transmitters are designed to withstand at least 6.0:1 SWR (same cases 10:1) before the RF power transistors/ antenna switching diodes burn out due to internal temp. hot spots .With the same wsr ratio , let say 1.5..the longer antenna means more signal irradiation and at the receiving location!!!..And also it is better a longer antenna with reasonable SWR than a stock antenna with 1:1 ratio . I already tested this tactical antenna with Baofeng V-1 GMRS radio and using a basic signal strength analog meter got 70% more signal at 10 ft from the antenna than the Baofeng stock antenna. Did the same test at the UHF ham band (440 MHz) with another Baofeng uv-82 and got mediocre results. An additional benefit to me is that I can carry the my radio as a fishing rod due to the long isolated and rugged antenna base mount. My conclusion: Will use it at GMRS not at Ham bands Review: A great value - A bit of a novelty but it does boost range, so it is a good buy for me. It will help my ARES work. Great performance all around but sort of cumbersome space wise. I’d suggest running a lead from your radio to a vest or backpack to help with this. It unfolds to over 3x its folded length and stores easily.
