It's a Grind! What a Find! Tanors Manual Coffee Grinder Mill!

*by T***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 3, 2015*

Our new coffee grinder mill is really useful. It seemed as if it just appeared out of nowhere, but actually my husband ordered it from Amazon. We actually appreciate it more and more each day. It's been over a week and my husband has diligently ground our coffee beans. As his biceps get bigger, our appreciation for it increases daily. Years ago, we embraced the new and popular trend of the electric grind. We were so amazed at how quickly the coffee beans could be ground to powdery dust. We followed many other prevailing trends, as did all our yuppie best friends. We even bought coffee table books about coffee and how to prepare it. We discussed coffee making methods over cups of coffee as we got together for a cup of coffee or even a quiet cup of tea. Eventually, our electric grinder died a slow painful death. A burnt metal flavor began to seep into the taste of treasured cups of coffee. Then, it just simply didn't work. We no longer were able to grind whole beans. After our electric grinder broke, we just quit caring and became apathetic. We sunk into a deep funk and drifted aim loudly along, making coffee any which way that happened to be available. In an effort, to not go broke, during a broken economy, we really roughed it for a while. Secretly, We used instant coffee or bought ground coffee to use with our Second hand Mr. Coffee machine. By then, our glamorous fancy coffee machine had finally quit working, too. Troubles were many. Pleasures were few in our apathetic pathetic coffee life during this time of strife. Currently, things are looking up! We finally Found a way to put joy in our cup of life. We have completely changed our coffee lifestyle. There's a new man in town. We have a new Mr. Coffee machine. We are hand grinding our coffee for full enriched flavour. We have this new wonderful grinder too! It works well and has a detachable coffee decanter which actually can be separated from the grinder after grinding coffee beans. The coffee grinds looks very lovely and elegant in the glass decanter as it sits on our counter. Also, a nice brush was included to dust the beloved new hand grinder off. On a side note, We even have a coffee press. We are moving up in the world. Our daughter developed a taste for this style of coffee making after hanging out at Starbucks. That's another story for another day. I really do like this hand coffee grinder best out of any approach we have tried towards making a good cuppa cuppa. It is more pragmatic than our many past convoluted approaches towards getting a good cup of Joe. It is simple, gentle, practical and everyone seems to enjoy the flavour best. I bet a million coffee beans that it will last longer than the old electric coffee grinder did. I must confess, that even under duress, I rarely really drink coffee, but I do love its beautiful rich aroma. I adore hanging out at coffee bars. I am just a slightly social coffee drinker, but my husband loves coffee with a passion beyond belief. I, myself, am more likely to have a cold Chai Tea or a hot Earl Grey tea. That's a whole different matter entirely. Most of all, I enjoy studying everyone's different coffee drinking habits, especially in my own family. It's no grind to have discovered such a find. We love our new coffee grinder. My husband ordered it, but I think it's grand!

With an Aeropress the grind has to be right to allow full extraction of coffee flavor without being so fine as to clog the filte

*by J***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 5, 2014*

My Solis electric burr grinder literally self-destructed (but only after 15 years of use) so I thought it would be interesting to try a manual grinder. For $20 it was worth a try and becomes a backup if I buy another electric grinder. I use an Aeropress to make coffee and I only grind enough beans for 2 cups of coffee at a time so the whole process of grinding coffee and brewing is kind of a ritual. If I were making 8-12 cups of coffee in a drip coffee maker this would not be practical. Too much time and effort to do the grinding. With an Aeropress the grind has to be right to allow full extraction of coffee flavor without being so fine as to clog the filter. I have found that the adjustment wheel with its notches allows me to get the correct grind but it comes down to just the right number of turns and the right notch. So the problem is not that it cannot be adjusted, it is with repeating the adjustment. So I don't take it apart to clean it for that reason and the brush has little value. I only use one brand of beans so cleaning is not a big issue. Another potential drawback might be that the squared hole in the handle is a very sloppy fit on the squared end of the shaft that drives the burr. Perhaps it will never round itself out but it would be comforting if the fit were better. Some have commented on the play at the bottom of the burr. Yes, there is play but it seems to me that if there are beans being fed equally down all sides the burr will tend to self-center. I am getting pretty consistent grounds so it seems not to be an issue, at least not so far. One thing I really, really like is the lack of a static charge that causes the grounds to cling. The ground coffee just accumulates in the glass jar and pours out completely, smooth as silk. Why can't the electric grinders have bins that work like that? And there is the great aroma. My electric burr grinder never seemed to grind coffee with the delicious aroma this manual does. But it does take effort. If you need coffee to start your engine in the morning just grinding the coffee manually will get you going!

    Fantastic little grinder

*by S***G on Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on March 18, 2015*

This little grinder is excellent. I had been using a blade grinder for my French press for years and was so frustrated with the sludge at the bottom of every coffee. I also found that I could never make a consistently-tasting coffee from day to day. This grinds the beans perfectly every time. My coffee always tastes the same (great) every day. I also like putting the (small) effort into grinding the beans manually - for what it's worth, it makes me appreciate my coffee even more.My only (minor) frustration is that it takes a bit of effort to change the grind-size. You have to actually disassemble the unit. Not difficult at all, but not super convenient for changing the grind-size on the fly either.
