Africa is the area of concern for labor issues related to cocoa production (child labor, slavery, etc) but not all African cocoa comes from slave or child labor. Ghiradelli never directly addresses the issue on their sustainability web page and they don't advertise their free trade or fair trade practices so I imagine some digging would reveal that kind of labor on at least some of their farms.
