The BORA 6-Inch aluminum oxide sharpening stone is a 2 sided stone with one coarse grit and one fine grit side. Intended for sharpening all types of edged tools and knives. Ideal size and convenient for bench work.

Review: Good stone for the price - This is a good fast cutting stone, but doesn’t cut as fast as a dmt diamond stone. Rough side can reprofile an edge fairly quickly if you use a scrubbing type of stroke. When you first use it, it is quite rough, but smooths out with use. I flattened it with my dmt 325 plate to give it a nice consistant surface (and to flatten it). Can be used dry, just wipe off the metal shavings. Plus flattening it cleans it thoroughly.

**Q: Can it be used to sharpen a ninja star?**
A: Yes, you could sharpen any flat metal thing on it, just use the edge. Though I'd have to recommend a file or a stick-sharpener for a ninja star just because the nubs are usually too small.

**Q: Ive never used a sharpening stone before any advice so i dont mess up?**
A: First, EVERYONE messes up in the beginning, so just give yourself permission to be imperfect. Start with a knife which is not too precious to "mess up".  
Remember, practice makes perfect.

**Q: I need a sharpener for a knife I use to cut plants out of the ground at the root and for a pair of clippers to cut branches. Will this work for both?**
A: It may, but I think you would be better of with a grinder.  This stone is a finer sharpener and the items your referring to would sharpen much faster with an electric grinder.

**Q: I want to try to sharpen my garden pruners. any thoughts?  i can substitute water or oil or wd-40?  thanks!**
A: The manufacturer rates this product not only for knives but for tools as well. This should be suitable for sharpening garden pruners.

Yes, it is an incredible affordable sharpening stone - I think most people would agree that outside of a used whetstone, this item is likely the cheapest entry item that you can find on Amazon. But don't get yourself fooled - this sharpening stone is not bad at all. It excels in rough shaping and then finer sharpening of a blade and truly shines with work tools (chisels, for example). Knifes and scissors works well, but keep in mind that "true" whetstones usually quadruple the highest grid on this stone for some finer sharpening work (at around 1000 grit at least). A low grit gives you a distinct advantage of abrading large areas and thus can "rescue" knifes or tools with imperfections (dents, small chips, etc) far quicker than higher grits. On the other hand, those low grits cannot fully polish the edges for the best cutting edge. Given the price, this is a fantastic stone and I love using it. The overall procedure is a bit more drawn out, since it requires soaking in water for a lengthy period before use, with sprinkling more constantly. However, it does its job and offers two grits for some level of control.
