There were quite a few disatrous marriages mentioned, some with a duration of only two days! The problem with the book is that because it covered so many maladjusted marriages each story seemed more like an overview and didn't achieve any real depth.Many years ago I read a few Ann Rule books on true crime. When an author devotes an entire book to a story the reader will obvious understand the people and the events leading up to the crime a lot better than when a book with many stories packed into it. So, while this book wasn't bad for what it claimed to be (a collection), for myself I would have preferred a book which covered only one of these crimes in depth. Also, while I was reading these stories, it struck me as to how many of them I had seen on TV on one or another of those "Investigation Discovery" or other true crime shows.As far as the writing, it wasn't bad. I recall reading one awkwardly-worded sentence, but it wasn't egregious enough for me to mark it down, so it wasn't that bad. The stories were certainly interesting, to say the least. There were a few that I wouldn't mind reading an entire book about. I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading this book, but just know in advance that you won't be getting into any of these mal-adjusted marraiges and the people involved in any great depth. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Well-written and commonsensical, this collection is a fabulous read for anyone! *by K***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2015* Its astonishing how often this happens. And sadly, I get the impression this book just gives us a hint as to how often it really does happen.The cases chosen for this collection are diverse, well-researched and extremely compelling. Be prepared for an all-nighter my fellow crime buffs. In this book, you'll see cases where both men and women are the perpetrators; where a history of violence was visible, and some not; and where the couple were married for a very short time - as little as 4 days - when the murder took place, while others were almost a year. Some cases had the most intriguing circumstances surrounding the murders that they left me dumbfounded and speechless. Most have a resolution, however, there are a sad few where the victims families are still looking for answers.Well-written and commonsensical, this collection is a fabulous read for anyone - whether a true crime fan or not. In many of these cases, the warning signs are there before the couples got married. At the end of the book the author includes a list of these warning signs of domestic violence and where you can go for help. If you or a friend are in a situation like this, please seek help. A true crime novel, this is a collection of stories about newlyweds who are murdered during the first year of marriage. In all cases, there is overwhelming evidence that the spouse is the one who committed the murder, or paid someone else to do so. However, even with evidence, there are a few cases where someone who you suspect is a killer walks free.JJ Slate does a good job at providing the evidence in a form that is both interesting and straight-forward.
