A: it is a glass lens -- focal area is only clear in the very center .... check the Triplets , much better focal area, for not a lot more $

**Q: is this made out of stainless steel or just the color of stainless?**
A: I believe that it is made from stainless steel. It is very durable and there are no blemishes or discoloration as if it were just chrome coated metal.
