I have used those plastic ice packs. There’s no insert you can remove to clean, but it isn’t difficult to wipe down. **Q: What are the bottom plates made of?** A: I'm not certain what the material is, but the bottom 'plates' are thicker, stronger, and less flexible than the vertical dividers.
