The adjustable size makes it perfect for the task. Start out with a bigger hoop and make it smaller as the dog learns. For my purposes - this is a 5-star product.The reason it's only getting four stars is that it's not great to use as an actual hula hoop. It's hard to keep it spinning because it doesn't have the "sand" (or whatever it is) that you have in a traditional hoop. That "sand" keeps the momentum going and keeps your hoop spinning.
