I was able to directly smash the pole into the ground to depth with a regular sledge hammer after starting with a short sledge.I marked on the side of the pole how far into the ground it needed to go, before going outside to where the sign was being installed. This will help keep track of how far into the ground the signpost has already gone.Using a pickaxe, I created a starting hole about two feet off of the road. Using the shorter sledge and a level, I drove the pole into the ground a foot, then finished it off with the larger sledge.Make sure to organize your bolts and sign before installing the pole. And learn about your local sign laws to make sure you legally can install the sign where you are planning. You may find that a permit or permission from the land owner is needed first.Since installing the signpost at the correct depth, it has survived through rain in spring into winter with snow and snow plows. The weatherproof coating is a must if you would like the signpost to last. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HEAVY DUTY sign post! *by B***R on May 2, 2019* I had two aluminum sign posts destroyed by our landscaper that mows our grass. I guess he didn't like mowing around them so destroyed them to elimate them. He won't be destroying this! This post would destroy his lawn mower instead.We had to dig a hole about 12" deep and then pounded the post down about another 12". It's not going anywhere and since it's so thick and heavy duty, it's not going to be bent in half.And this is galvanized steel so it will last a lifetime!
