This is a very sturdy stand. It will hold anything you’d want to put on it. **Q: What is the shortest height this can be adjusted to?** A: I lowered mine to find the answer. From the top (boom holder) to the bottom was 23 inches. Add the distance from floor with legs extended for maximum stability to bottom was 3.5 inches. How you adjust the boom will add some overall height. I use mine for the ride cymbal. **Q: Will it hold an 8" tom and a 16-18" cymbal?** A: It’s not designed to be dual purpose (tom stand/cymbal stand), but if you have some sort of attachment that fits the cymbal stand, it would definitely support the weight of an 8” tom and 16” - 18” cymbal. It’s a really sturdy stand. **Q: Will this convert into a straight cymbal stand?** A: Sure, it will convert to a straight stand. It’s really a great all purpose stand.
