With the stock collapsed, they fit better. My new SBR (short barrel rifle) fits even better. I like these zippered pockets better than the flap'n'latch style because you can lock them, and they're just easier. The bags (both sizes) are holding up well, resist stains, and are very convenient. It can carry two rifles and the pockets carry a lot of support gear. The one negative I found is that the magazine pockets on the 36" are about 1/2" to 1" shorter than in the 42" pockets, and so a Magpul Gen M3 mag fits tighter, especially with the dust cap on. Since the flap on the pouch is forced slightly out, it's not as easy to zip the pocket closed. A small, but irritating problem. Otherwise, I like these very much. You'd probably want the 42" with a mid- or full-length rifle. The full wrap-around carrying straps give confidence they won't suddenly strip out and dump your gun. The top latches are good backup to prevent the zipper from being pulled apart when carrying two guns. The molle straps can be useful, but I don't use them, finding everything I need fits nicely in the areas provided. With the pockets full, however, the bag will lean to that side, so is not fully balanced, a minor issue. There is provision for backpack straps if wanted. With two guns, six 30-rd. mags, ear and eye protectors, and a few field tools, this can get a bit heavy, but so far has held up well. After trying many other bags (some hit, but most were a miss). This Voodoo Tactical bag is awesome. The 42” is perfect for my 18” upper and my pistol build fits great too. Heavy duty material, sturdy zippers, good hook & loop covers for the mag compartments. Holds 8 large double stack pistol mags, and 6 AR mags per side (12 total 30rd AR Mags)!!!! Even the v3 Magpul version with the dust covers. The 42” holds my 18” rifle with the stock fully extended and a weapon light and still has plenty of room for another rifle or pistol build. My only gripe is the locks are junk, but I didn’t expect anything on the locks. I am more than impressed with this bag. I will buy more to replace other bags. I don’t mind the shoulder strap, it has a thick pad with MOLLE webbing & can be worn like a sling across the back, or over the shoulder for side carry. DONT LOOK ANYMORE! My humble opinion, or at least for me, this bag is perfect and a much better bang for the buck than other bags costing more. I would buy this again. I watched a you tube video of a fellow who has this bag and how he stocked it (check it out, it's pretty good). Pretty impressive the amount of material he was able to stock it with. I agree with one reviewer, the carry strap could be a bit better on slippage when carrying a heavy load. But, all I did was loop it over my head and carried using the opposite shoulder, so worked fine. As best I can tell so far, and I have loaded it down on several occasions now, the stitching seems very good, all the parts, zipper seem especially sturdy. I'm happy with it and considering comparable bags. I think this bag will last me many years. I didn't like the small range bags on this site (smaller hand carry), and ended up finding a great one for less than 45 at Midway.USA.
