I installed this on my 98 F150 (4.6 liter, 8.8 rear gear) and could not have been happier with the outcome.When performing the installation, if your housing surface is clean and there are no large gouges, and if your cover is not bent or has dimples in the flange surface, then no, you should not need any sealant. Following a minor rear-end rebuild, I made sure the housing surface was nice and clean and installed the gasket with a new cover (they're pretty cheap, I highly recommend  CSI 1312 Steel Differential Cover, Ford 8.8" ring gear ). I tightened all of the bolts to the maximum recommended torque specification (30 ft-lb). Have driven thousands of miles since the installation with no leaks whatsoever. However, I do not have a limited slip differential, so I cannot confirm if the friction modification additives would have changed the outcome. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great *by D***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 12, 2019* I didn’t have to wait to drive once I installed it.
