I've seen black powder rifles with larger nipples, but those are usually on much larger calibers, 50, 53, and 74, etc. If the rifle was not cleaned after firing and the nipple is corroded into the barrel, you may not be able to remove it without a torch and penetrating oil. **Q: will this nipple wrench work on a traditions, Vortex Magnum 50 cal. musket nipple?** A: It should. Just keep downward pressure on it while you turn it or it will round on you! **Q: does the handle slide out?** A: no **Q: Will this work on a Traditions Buckstalker xl?** A: I would say no. I bought it for my Pedersoli SxS and it was too small. My gun takes #11 caps. If you can measure the width of the flats on the nipple that might give you an indication as to whether the size is right or not. Your gun might have a different nipple size than mine though. I ended up buying a little ratchet thing with the nibs that are the three common sizes for all BP guns. I think it was around $30 for the set. You can find them on Amazon. Fits my Black powder revolver nipples very nicely, and the included nipple pick is a bonus. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Can't take a lot of stress! *by S***7 on July 10, 2026* Does what it's supposed to do on a maintained rifle. I used it for a year or so for cleaning after a day of shooting my black powder rifles. The only negative is the weak metal. For a properly torqued nipple it works fine. Unfortunately a friend acquired a rifle that was not cleaned properly and had a seized nipple. The wrench broke after I applied too much torque attempting to break it free.
