I just wanted to make two hand print ornaments with my toddlers this year for Christmas. The clay shipped quickly. It was a little hard out of the package but with the warmth from my hands and a bit of kneading, it softened and was workable. The 8 oz. block was perfect and made two ornaments with just a little bit left over. It took quite a bit of pressure and pressing to get my toddlers' hand prints deep enough to show all the details. But once we achieved it, all the details including fine fingerprints were captured. it was easy to bake in the toaster oven to set. I placed them on a foiled lined try and baked as instructed (I did turn the temperature down a little lower than recommended because I read online that the white clay can brown when heat is too high) for about 15 to 20 minutes. I'm very happy with the clay and the ornaments we made. The kiddos had a lot of fun making them. I would recommend this product for price, versatility, and ease of use. So you get plenty of clay! :) **Q: What is the difference between sculpey iii and just plain old sculpey? i want to use it to make large beads and ornaments.** A: Hello,The original sculpey just comes in White and Terra Cotta and the III comes in a variety of colors and sizes. The III is also a little stronger clay and has less of a filler. If you are going to be making large beads and ornaments the manufacturer suggested that you put a compressed ball of aluminum foil inside the ball. That way you less clay as well.Thanks **Q: Can this be painted? If so, with what kinds of paint?** A: Yes, I'd also use acrylic paints. **Q: Is sculpy waterproof** A: I think so. It's very porous though.
