A little noisy when installing from discs, but that's to be expected and it's nothing that will annoy you. Bear in mind that the package I bought includes the Blu Ray software! If you don't buy it with the software you're going to have to either pirate it or buy it separate. I wouldn't recommend pirating this stuff, as it's licensed and is more difficult than you'd think to get around, and the software by itself can cost you upwards of $70 to buy! Just do yourself a favor and buy the bundle, you'll thank yourself later for the lack of a headache. This item is extremely easy to install and would not be intimidating to someone installing hardware for the first time. That aside I did a lot of research going in to purchasing a new BR drive for my new machine and everything I read kept me going back to Pioneer as the most reliable. I've never had an issue with Pioneer considering I use their decks in my vehicles and have been for years now.
