If you live in a cold place that also snows (cold and wet), these are the perfect boots for a child. We live in the midwest, so these get solid daily wear from late October to about mid April, which makes these boots worth every dollar. I bought a pair last year for my 2.5 year old at the time, who loved it so much that even when we went to LA for the holidays, refused to wear any other shoes but these in 70 degree weather. These boots are incredibly easy to put on, with the handles at the sides. It gives a young child who is just learning to be independent that sense of pride of being able to put on and take off their own shoes. These are also really warm, has great traction (for playing in the snow), and stays dry. They are tough boots made to be worn outside, but also super cute and goes with anything. For sizing, my 3.5yo currently wears a 9 in Carter's sneakers, but I ordered size 10, which fits very well but with a bit of room to allow for an extra pair of socks if needed, and some growth in the next 6 months. One thing that I found to be very helpful is to go to the Bogs website, which has a pdf that you can download and print, to help you with sizing. If you print it correctly, there is a outline that should fit a credit card perfectly, and that's how you know the size chart can be trusted. I was initially going to order size 9 but changed to 10 after using that size chart to measure my child's feet.So, buy these, they are great! Lasts a long winter season for a rough and tumble child through daily HEAVY use. They meet all the qualities a mom can ever ask for a good pair of winter boots. Materials are soft, warm, sturdy and most important water proof! Rubber soles are slip resistant. I bought the black space theme one, the design is really fun. My son demanded to wear them even on a non snow day. Only thing needs to improve is the shafts are too narrow. Size 7 should be perfect, however it was hard to pass through the shaft. So I have to exchange to one size up.
