Bottom/floor grip was nice,5. when I press my hands into the Top side of the mat they slide a little but when getting up after wiping the top, my toes seemed to grip the mat well. Again looking forward to class to truly test this out.5.carrier strip is similar to a shoes string as another reviewer stated.6. based on another reviewer I test trying to roll up an put back in the bag. the first try I couldn't at all. I tried again with a tight roll and the carrier strap I was able to put the bag over it. With some tugging it fit. it was easier to put it in my older bag that unzip the length of the mat.7. I chose this mat for several reasons. I hoped the line in the design would help me to straighten my postures, I hoped the bag would protect my new mat from my cat, and I hoped a strap would help with some of the stretches. The line is helpful and the mat generally seems to be of good quality. I was very disappointed though to find that the "strap" is a shoestring. Actually a shoestring, just a little longer with loops on each end. That would be painful for stretching, both for my hands and feet, and I imagine it would break very quickly. It's pretty useless. If you're thinking the handle on the bag comes off and is can be used for a strap, I'm afraid not. It's sewn on and very short. Okay, I can find another strap. Then came the really bad news. There is no getting this mat back inside its bag!! I suppose it may be the mat's no slip texture, so tried rolling it as tightly as possible and even tried the old panty-hose trick of bunching the bag up and sort of unrolling it onto the bag. No go. I tried until my shoulder hurt and I was cursing and for sure all the benefits of my yoga workout had been undone. I won't be trying again. Which means I'll try to hide this away but eventually my cat will get it an it will be toast. I wanted a bag with my goga mat that could actually be used as a bag for my yoga mat. In my previous attempt I bought the typical 4mm gaiam mat and had a horrible experience with it sticking to my feet, sliding everywhere and it smelled to high heaven. Needless to say, when I started contemplating yoga again I wasn't even sure if I wanted a mat because I am practicing at home on a carpeted surface. However, I found that it was difficult to keep myself from sliding in positions like down dog and knew I needed something to help.I decided to give this mat a try since it was eco-friendly and a little larger than the typical mat which I found to be a bit too small for me. I was apprehensive about ordering online because so many other mats had reviews about odor problems and weird substances being all over them. I was pleasantly surprised with this one!It comes in a nice carrying case with the optional string carrier at a good value. The mat itself rolled out easily and pretty much laid flat on the first use (with the exception of the part that was curled the tightest in the package) and I suspect with a little time it will lay completely flat without problems. It provides plenty of grip for your hands without being sticky or sounding like your feet are suction cupped to it. The bottom also doesn't slide around on a carpeted surface. The mat itself barely has an odor, which I was only able to detect during the moments that I was in child's pose and basically taking a big whiff of the mat. All in all, a great buy!TLDR: Barely an odor, doesn't slip on carpet, plenty of grip without being sticky and lays nicely. Looks great too!
