Review: Quiet, Balanced, Simple, Bright - These are so much better then some other fans I bought. They have a more "traditional" look than the low-profile fan I had before, but it was very simple to assemble by myself, and mounted easily as well. I didn't have to use the balance tabs at all, and the color options allowed me to match up the room decor with ease (as much as I know how). Tips: 1) Do NOT assemble beforehand. Even with a helper, it will be much easier to just attach the blades and light afterwards. 2a) Make sure that you have a proper drop box in the ceiling. I highly recommend the box with the twist arm that extends between the joists. This is an after build (RETRO) style that can replace your light fixture box. Removing the old one can be a pain. I recommend using a Sawzall or jigsaw to cut the nails, once the wires are retracted. Get professional help if you are at all uneasy doing this. You don't want to go electrocuting yourself or cut through a joist! 2b) DO NOT use a standard light fixture box, even if it is rated to 50 lbs. They are not designed to handle the sway when the blades rotate. 2c) I further recommend the retro electrical box style with the square rod over the round rod, as with the square one your can truly tighten it down a bit more beyond hand tightening using a wrench (be sure to not OVER torque and crack the joists). 3) Get a remote (around $20) to operate these, and be sure to PROGRAM the remote and receiver ahead of time! I forgot on 1 of the 3 I bought, and I had to disassemble the whole thing to flip two tiny switches in the remote base! 4) Use the added pull chain hole in the light cap for the fan speed pull chain. Aligning it can be a small challenge, but once lined up, it will work quite well as an override in case the remote fails. 5) With the remote hooked up, the pull chains will operate differently. For instance, if you turn the fan on high with the remote, the pull chain will toggle it between low/med/high like normal. However, if you turn the fan on low with the remote, the pull chain will now toggle as ultra low, very low, and low. Keep this in mind. I'm not sure myself, but i wouldn't recommend running the at these abnormal settings, as the motor was likely not designed for them. 6) If you get multiple fans and remotes, MARK YOUR REMOTES in some way that helps determine which one is for which room. This will save you the frustration of walking room to room and clicking away to find out if the remote is for that room. I marked a small number on the back of the remote and on the hanger base. Just match them up!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How far does this hang from the ceiling in the closemount installation? We have a low ceiling in our bedroom.**
A: First, ignore the printed instructions that come with fan on Page 5 that suggest "Flushmount Installation - not available for this model." In fact, it can be flush mounted per the .pdf manual's "CLOSEMOUNT INSTRUCTIONS" on Page 10 (which you can download from either Honeywell or Amazon). As noted by two others who apparently did the installation correctly, the close mount leaves the bottom of the light's globe at just 9.5" from the ceiling. The blades are roughly 5" from the ceiling. 

Also note that the .pdf version of the installation manual is from June 4, 2014 and it lists a 'red' hot/power wire coming from the receiver — ignore that as it is correctly BLACK. The printed version that comes with the fan is dated May 21, 2020. While it incorrectly states that you cannot flush mount the unit (again, see the .pdf version), it does have the correct update for the remote control. 

You'll also note that the light bulb arrangement is different than suggested in the Amazon listing. Instead of three candelabra based bulbs it has two tiny standard (A19) based bulbs. The lighting is 'dim' to say the least. The problem is that these are physically small sized bulbs (think appliance bulb). I'm hunting for alternatives that are brighter.

All said, the installation was rather straightforward. Besides the dim bulbs, the fan does make a noticeable noise which is rather disappointing. One gets what one pays for.

**Q: What is the actual height from the ceiling to the bottom of the light**
A: It is 11"

**Q: Says it has a dimmer but the picture of the remote looks like it’s just an on off. Please explain.?**
A: I just installed this yesterday 6/24/20. My remote dims the light by holding the light button down. It slowly dims and then slowly goes to full bright.

**Q: Where do you put the remote control brain? The unit does not fit it the top ceiling cap.**
A: It barely fits under the top ceiling cap but it fits. I suggest you connect the house wires and all ground wires before hanging the fan. The brain fits snugly on top of the hanging bracket. Your question is appropriate since the instructions are inadequate.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful Fan, Installation Was a Challenge

The Honeywell Carmel 48” Ceiling Fan looks beautiful in our space, but I’ll admit the installation was more complicated than we expected — there were definitely a lot of parts to sort through. That said, once we got it put together, we could tell how well thought out the design is. The fan runs quietly, the airflow is great, and the remote is super convenient. One thing I really appreciate is that it came with warm LED lights, which can be surprisingly hard to find. Overall, despite the tricky installation, it’s a stylish, functional fan that we’re happy with.
