    Very Touching

I was very moved by Helen Colin's story. I am amazed that she could tell her story without a hint of bitterness. Even so, I was moved and my heart ached for her and all the victims of the Holocaust.  It is my hope that through the bravery of people like Helen Colin that part of history will never be forgotten, and that it will hopefully never be repeated.

    Great teen point-of- view Holocaust memoir

This short book is a memoir of a simple contented life with loving family - interrupted by the Nazi invasion of Poland and the holocaust, and then the return to a happy life with a move to America.  The memoir tells simple but horrible stories - very personal experiences were easy to relate to and the pain and frustration were very real.  As an adult I related easily to the story - but I think a teenage audience would perhaps resonate even more as Helen was a teen and young adult though the ordeals in the book.  One of the best Holocaust books told form the teen/young adult point of view.

Reading of this real life experience of a survivor of the Holocaust helps me to better understand what strength and perseverance it took for each of the victims. I feel fortunate to have read her book, herstory, and wept at the unfolding of the life and losses shared. Open your hearts and read Helen Colin's personal account.
