I just cut off about 1 in to make it shorter and smoothened the cut edge w/ a file. At that time I even didn't know that they are for a different purpose. I also clamped one rack boot on 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, but that boot has an opening for air breezer, so seems like a bit too wide, but closes everything.
