I’ve had it a couple months now and have been through several rain storms and the filter kept everything crystal clear. I did get a little algae built up on the wall but a little shock nd it was gone! I haven’t cleaned it since I’ve installed it whereas the last filter I had I needed to clean the filter after a couple rains. Granted this filter is a bit bigger than my last but it is significantly much more effective keeping my water clear. As for installation I did it myself. I got a quote from my local pool store for over $2000 installed and it was a smaller filter of lesser quality. So I got this filter as well as the recommended multi port valve (face it if you’re going to spend $1200 on a filter ya might as well go another $150 and get a new valve). In order to get it installed positioned like my last filter I would have had to do some PVC plumbing and so I decided to install it positioned in an inverted position. Works perfect! **Q: Besides the Variflow backwash valve, what else do I need to install it on an existing pool pipe?** A: I bought a Hayward DE3620 and a Hayward SP0715XR50 Valve. The filter already has all the grids inside. All I needed besides those products was 2" PVC, unions, elbows, PVC glue, PVC cleaner, teflon tape, etc. Because the inputs and outputs were placed differently from the old filter, I had to reroute some PVC. I kept my old pool pump and all the feature/skimmer valves and chlorinator. In shipment, the filter came with a cracked pressure guage bezel, as it was pretty roughly handled, so I had to buy another one at a pool supply store. They are very common so that was not a problem, but I did not want to wait and hassle with RMA. I recommend you check the filter unit as soon as they deliver it and refuse it if they have damaged it. I was lucky it was only a $10.00 fix for me. **Q: The de2420 installation instructions mention o-rings for the two connections from the valve. Works well, my only 2 concerns were the valve to backwash did not come with this item, had to purchase it separately $60-$90 dollars more. This filter is unable to be used without this valve so I had no other choice. I haven't any idea why it would arrive without the necessary parts to install. Other flaw is there isn't a socket/tool with the filter to open/tighten the middle retention band. The housing sticks out past the bolt so it makes it difficult to use an adjustable crescent wrench when opening the filter to clean it.
