(Actually, my gripe is with the series editor, not the authors: the different books in the series seem to assume very different levels of experience from their readers).However, Cunningham's Shooter's Guide to Handguns is one I can wholeheartedly recommend. There isn't a single thing about it that I would change; it really is an ideal intro to both guns themselves and to shooting. It even covers things like options for safely storing your guns, etc. It answers all of the questions a new shooter has probably wanted to ask, as well as some s/he would probably never have thought to ask.This one is so good that I actually read it three times: Before I purchased my first gun, once while I was in the waiting period for my gun, and again about 6 months after I had gotten my first gun and started shooting it. I got quite a bit of new stuff out of it on each reading. I had other books, but just kept coming back to this one.Another book I strongly recommend for new shooters is The Perfect Pistol Shot by Albert H League III. Staying within this Gun Digest Shooter's Guide series, I did really enjoy Gun Digest Shooter's Guide to Handgun Marksmanship by Peter Lessler. However, the latter book is probably a lot more detail than a brand new shooter really needs; Albert League's book is a better intro (in my opinion) to the fundamentals. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent general handgun book for the post-novice *by I***K on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 3, 2016* The book has an excellent summary of different cartridge sizes, Also, each chapter has a list of resources if you want to learn about subject matter in more detail. Another Gun Digest book I would recommend is the Guide to Concealed Carry Handguns by Dick Jones, 2015 ( https://www.amazon.com/Digest-Guide-Concealed-Carry-Handguns/dp/1440243883/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1467514228&sr=8-11&keywords=gun+digest+book+of+concealed+carry ), which has a comparison of the major handguns currently available (even full size handguns that one would not buy to carry), with recommendations.One disagreement I had with the book is when it discusses correct fit. It shows how the gun fits correctly if it lines up straight along the axis of the arm, which I suppose is something to pay attention to. But when you're pointing the gun naturally, along eyesight line of sight, the gun will generally point toward the outside, especially using two-handed gun shooting techniques. Another excellent book from the same publisher, the Gun Digest Book of the Revolver (https://www.amazon.com/Digest-Book-Revolver-Grant-Cunningham/dp/1440218129/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467515154&sr=8-1&keywords=gun+digest+book+of+the+revolver ), makes the same assertion. I haven't had time to read it thoroughly, but in a quick browse, I found two things:1. Not a lot of in depth coverage on all of the topics (what I was looking for)2. Hand guns were not covered, as well as Rifles and Shot Guns .I'm new to guns and had hoped this book would relieve my apprehension about the proper care and maintenance of weapons.
