## Description

Are you craving a way to eat killer food without killing yourself, animals, or the planet? Is your brain bloated from watching cooking shows that present recipes you’re never, ever going to make? Have you been searching for a way to prove to your friends that vegan food can be just as delicious, hearty, and satisfying as the meaty meals they’re accustomed to? Then this is the book for you. Of his journey from watching food porn on his parents’ couch to cooking in Hollywood kitchens to becoming vegan, author Brian Patton writes: My roommate said he didn’t know what made me a bigger loser: that I was painstakingly preserving episodes of 30 Minute Meals or that I was trying to conceal their existence by labeling them Star Trek.... Once I discovered that I could not only survive but thrive without taking the life of another being, I was sold. I was a vegan. For good. And that’s how an “ordinary dude” became the Sexy Vegan and started creating “extraordinary food” with a decidedly real-meal appeal. On every page, Brian proves that seriously good food needn’t be too serious.

Review: Sexy indeed! - Who doesn't love a man with a great sense of humor?! Couple that with fantastic recipes and an insanely lovable writing style, and you have a winning cookbook. This is a book every vegan(except maybe the most reserved due to adult language) could appreciate and delight in reading. Every recipe is introduced by the writer in a fun and comical way, and I find myself laughing out loud as I read the intros. The recipes are fantastic and could meet anyone's approval. I appreciate the fact that he makes his own meat substitutes and is a real cook. The seitan recipe and all the things he shows you to do with it is a life-saver. I am already a well-seasoned cook, but I believe the recipes would be easy for any beginning cook or beginning vegan cook. Every new vegan should own this. It's super good food, with great entertainment on the side. All in all, completely satisfying!
Review: I made some of the recipes, they were great! - For the record, I am not a vegan. I am not even a vegetarian, but this is still a great addition to a cookbook library. This will definitely be my go-to reference for meat substitutes (which I had never before been a fan of). Here's the breakdown so far. 1. Lasagna Fauxlognese = less prep work than you think given all of the individual components. Most just required mixing/blending. The fauxlognese sauce alone was EXCELLENT and I will certainly be making this again. The recipe was easy to follow and the ingredients were not hard to find. One tip, if using homemade noodles I would put sauce down as a first layer (they didn't quite cook all the way). This dish actually improves with time and re-heating, though you are not likely to have many leftovers! 2. Peanut butternut squash soup = also easy to make (my kitchen-challenged BF actually made this one all by himself). Again, this is now on our list of 'keeper' recipes. Watch out though, not all Sriracha sauce is vegan! 3. My balls = least favorite. I think there might be an error, should this be 8 oz of tempeh instead of 4? There was no way I was getting 10-12 (very wet) balls out of just 4 oz. I went ahead with 8 oz, but they just seemed less flavorful. 4. Beet down salad = what can I say, it's a salad. The only thing you really have to make is dressing, and it was pretty darn good. The key with these recipes are the seasonings. Brian does a great job of making things really flavorful. Again, I can't say enough good things about the fauxlognese sauce (not to mention the notzarella, which I want to put on everything I own!). Even if you don't want to make the full entrees, the components are fabulous for use in other dishes. My only complaint is with the physical book. It is a paperback and hard to keep open to reference while cooking (why do publishers to this?). I'm toying with the idea of having it re-bound with a spiral binding. If there is an e-book version available, that also might be worth considering.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love this book!
*by S***L on April 21, 2012*

I went plant based 3 months ago and the first few weeks of it were darn right hard. But, that was all unecessarily so. I wish I had had this book! This book has been a God send. The recipes are delicious not only for newbies like myself but for omni's too. This book has a lot of man and kid friendly food which I really appreciate. There a lot of recipes within recipes in this book. This seemed daunting to me at first but once I gave it a whirl, I see now why he set it up that way. For instance, I made the tater skinz the first night. I used 3 recipes to complete the meal (the tater skinz recipe, the sour creaminess, and the smoky cheeze). I opted for the pre-marinated tempeh at the market to avoid the 4th recipe. Anyway, it really didn't take that much effort (i.e. no more then 30 minutes as I nuked the potatoes), but it made a ton and I was able to use the leftover sour cream and cheeze throughout the week. Infact, I used the left over cheeze sauce to make mac n'cheese the next night in the time it takes to boil and drain the noodles!. I think we can all appreciate a quick meal once in a while! I had high blood pressure and was looking for ways to deal with it without medication and adopting a vegan lifestyle has been the answer for me. I'm officially OFF blood pressure medication! And I love Brian's book. His recipes are great for newbies. They are phenomenal AND healthy! I have made a few of my own personal modifications to some of the recipes, reducing the salt in several because I have grown used to less salt, but otherwise, the book is very solid. I have yet to fail with the book!
