This coupled with the slight hitch in her giddy up we figured it was better to be proactive. This ramp seemed to fit all that we needed. I will say that it does take up much more room then I thought it would folded but it's not unreasonable. You could slide it between seats. You will most likely have to train your dog to get them used to this. This can be done fairly easily with a bunch of treats and a clicker (or even just a well times 'good'). I suggest starting with the ramp open and laying flat on the ground. Treat the dog each time they run across it and give them a command (we use 'ramp'). Then slightly elevate the one end and repeat the process. Keep raising the ramp slightly until it's to the height of your car and you should have no problem getting your treat obsessed pup to run up and down it. It will sound like it's slippery but it's really not once they learn how to use it properly. It will take time. We had one 20 minute training session going from flat to car before my 60lb dog happily ran up and down the ramp, but now she loves it and I'm no longer hoisting a 60 lb wet and muddy wiggling dog into and out of my car. My Basset Hound is used to using a ramp to get in and out of the hatch of my Jeep so there was no problem introducing this new and lighter one. I left it sitting in the hallway so he could get used to smelling it etc and then used it properly to take him to a groomer. He refused! However I got him up it with a promised treat but he didn't like the noise or the slipperiness of it. I think it will work without breaking where the join is to fold the ramp but I am planning on trying to stick something, perhaps some lightweight carpet, to help his paws grip the surface. Because he's a Basset he is very laid-back and I am able to coerce him into doing my will but he isn't very happy about it at the moment. We'll see when I change the surface.
