Only the water going into the bowl from the bottom ends up with bleach in it, so the upper, non-submerged parts of the bowl never get treated. You can decide if that's import to you. This unit installs between the toilet flush valve and the overflow tube in the toilet tank. That means a few things: 1) Installation involves opening the tank and routing some tubes, via pushing tubes onto nipples. It's pretty simple. 2) The bleachy water goes right into the bowl, never sitting in the tank degrading the rubber parts. That's a good thing. 3) Water from the flush valve now takes a longer path to get from the flush valve to the overflow tube to the bowl. That means that the bowl will refill more slowly compared to the tank filling and turning off the flush valve. That means that the water level in the bowl is likely to be lower after this unit is installed. That may be a bad thing for some users. A little math shows that the amount of bleach introduced into a septic tank is small compared to something like doing laundry with bleach.
