If I stand super straight then I am exactly 5'4 with broad shoulders, a short waist and big assets on both my top and bottom. This jacket hits 5 inches above my ankle which is what I wanted, however, the belt and golden loops hit right at the top of my butt which looked really odd. The golden loops were sewn in, so I cut those off and tossed the belt away. I will say it looks a lot more attractive on me now and maybe it doesn't even require the belt especially with the zipper and toggles. It is definitely a coat that is made for women with a longer waist, but I am really happy with it after this small modification. I ordered my true size (10) but probably could have gotten an 8 and the fit would have been fine. To scale I am usually a size m/l mostly large. It's warm and looks great on. I usually like my outerwear to be a size larger so I can layer, and the 12 was unavailable at the time. Unfortunately it was far too large to keep. It is a very heavy coat, in part because of its wool content, and in part because of its thickness.
