Review: Great Blade! - This knife definitely out-punches its weight class! The Scandi grind takes an edge very well as long as you understand how to sharpen it to maintain the geometry and avoid adding a bevel. I don’t have much experience with AUS-8, but I know where it is on the spec chart, so I can only assume Cold Steel has a great heat treat process that explains the performance. I did a back to back comparison with a D2 knife of a little higher price point from another manufacturer when quartering two whitetail deer. This one held its edge great through the first deer. I started the second with the D2 and switched back to this one about half way through because the D2 wasn’t cutting as well. It was still quite sharp when I finished and I’ve done a total of 4 or 5 deer with it now. It’s convenient to have a folder that does that job well and can be folded up and dealt cleaned later on without worries about corrosion. The scales aren’t going to wow anyone, but it is very mechanically sound and it excels at the job I bought it to do! Great knife for a very low price compared to many alternatives for similar performance.
Review: Old reliable. - This thing is a tank . Sure, it feels more delicate after using the srk1, but make no mistake, this is a reliable piece of equipment for folks who actually use their knives. For outdoors work and woodworking , the Scandi grind is great - and super easy to sharped compared to all those microscopic bevels at whatever angle that can only be seen under a microscope and sharped with a weird jig- The Finnwolf sharpens up fast on a diamond stone and strop , and you can see right away if you’re doing it right. I use it as my edc, and my ONLY complaint is the fact that it’s not deep carry, which is an issue with most cold steel knives. That’s not necessarily a bad thing , as it’s easier to access for sure- but when I pick kids up from school or go to the balloon shop, I feel a little self conscious with what’s clearly a knife sticking an inch out of my pocket. On the plus side, it’s a nice shape and doesn’t look aggressive, especially in the gentle green color. For what you get for what you pay, it’s an incredible value. I like to use my knives so this guy has been through the wringer and held up like a champ- batoning, woodcarving , mini axe work, cutting cabbages and potatoes out of the mud- not to mention feeling safe when out and about. The Tri ad lock is just amazing too- I used it in the mud to chop smaller tree roots while digging holes for planting , and I went to town to see how it would hold up. After an hour in the dirt, a quick rinse and this thing opened and closed without a problem- no blade play at all. Super impressive!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long is the blade?**
A: Weight: 3.4 oz.Blade Thickness: 3 mmBlade Length: 3 1/2"Handle: 4 3/8" OD Green Griv-Ex™Overall: 7 7/8"Steel: Japanese AUS 8A StainlessPocket Clip: Ambidextrous Pocket / Belt Clip

**Q: Does anyone know what the Rockwell hardness is on this knive?**
A: various google results yielded a reported Rockwell hardness of 60-61. I was skinning some osage orange suckers with thorns, and popping the thorns off did manage to cause some small chips in the edge. It hasn't seriously impacted the knifes function for wood processing and fire starting, and will probably clean up nicely when I get around to it. I use the hell out of this knife and it is holding up far better than expected for $50 invested.

**Q: Is it american made**
A: The short answer, no.The long answer... This question is one asked from generally well intended desire to "buy American". While I appreciate that desire and goal, the times we live in make this and many other goods questions far more complex. In today's global economy there definitely still are knife makers that build excellent quality goods right here in America - but - and this is an important 'but' - the nature of the product that they make is significantly different from that of the 1900's through the 60's. Nowadays there's no room for poorly made products in our country, in fact, even very well made products carry a premium cost of being made in the US to the extent that makers here must offer value beyond materials and labor. So then, made in the USA knives are in one of three categories: 1. American made heritage and workhorse value - take for example KaBar's military fighting knives and their Becker division offer these, respectively, and command a high price... further, not all of KaBar or Becker knife offerings are made in the USA, only their core products as described.2. Traditional Collector-Grade Pocket Knives or Hand Made Exotics - Great Eastern Cutlery and Queen Cutlery are two names that manufacture by hand and sell very well made traditional pocket knifes of many limited run patterns and handle materials to collectors and users... they are expensive, but beautiful in craftsmanship and utility... but nothing like the truly exotic hand made items that can be found for sale by individual knife makers. 3. Individual knife makers who forge and build excellent fixed blade and folding knives on a limited run basis where designs are focused on best in class utility for certain tasks. Prices for this 3rd class of American made product fall in the $100 to $300 range depending on size and materials. Some of these makers are famous names in knife making carrying the trade forward from past experts. In this class, too, is some of Spyderco's knives, those made proudly in Golden Colorado - some would call these made for collectors, but many owners would say they use these proudly daily. Now on the other hand, Spyderco has long manufactured excellent folding knives in Japan using leading edge Japanese steels like VG10 and now truly rust-proof H1, and more recently in Italy using Europe's excellent N690Co steel. These knives are excellent in every way, and reasonable in price, but not cheap in any sense. So, too, has been the experience of famed knife-maker A.J. Russell, whose designs are renown. Some of his designs are made here with limited production and high value and price while most of his custom designed knives are produced in limited runs in China in key facilities that produce knives of the highest in quality in materials and workmanship. So then, American knife making is alive and well, but the focus is not large volume, but lower volume collectability or to meet lower demands of niche needs of serious hunters and outdoorsmen; and American knife design is alive and well, with key, famed designers and firms leveraging manufacturing volume and quality around the world to product excellent products. Sure there are cheaply made products from various countries, but knowledgeable buyers/users know the difference while glitz, gadget, and tactical fans often do not. Finally there are excellent knives with long tradition made in many countries - the Scandi-Ground knives from Finland, Norway, and Sweden are one example ("The Mora" and Helle Knives), the Opinel folding knife from France is another.Turning back to the Cold Steel Finn Wolf. This design addresses a desire that many outdoorsmen who simply love their Mora and Helle scandi-grind bushcrafter-outdoorsmen knives have for a folding version that would be equally as strong, equally as sharp, equally as useful in the outdoors. Cold Steel (US Company) has a reputation and practice of re-envisioning famous design styles found all over the world, and here attempts to do so with the scandi-ground knife. The Taiwan factories that make Cold Steel products can produce rugged knives with incredible sharpness, and the Cold Steel Finn Wolf is an example of this. I've taken the stud off mine - adding it as if this was a tactical one-hand opening folder was silly. The true scandi-grind, not too thick excellent AUS8A steel, and incredible Triad-Lock make a good effort at capturing this concept. Scandinavian makers Eka, Helle, and Enzo also have products to offer, but their price tag is 2x to 4x higher, reflecting lower volume and handle materials that are elegant and expensive. The Cold Steel Finn Wolf is a hard worker and good value at its price, but it, too, must compete with its inspiration, the famous Mora fixed blade knife, which sells for less than $20. But for camping and backpacking I choose to put the Cold Steel Finn Wolf folder in my pocket - it's strong enough to split wood by batoning, with sharp enough edge geometry to carve feather sticks, or fillet fish and cut veggies for meal prep, and saw up your steak dinner... and if I loose it I'm not out $60 to $100 or more, and I'm not wearing a fixed blade in a sheath while I'm walking around everywhere. Design of this knife and materials - American... made in a renown, high quality facility in Taiwan.

**Q: Does it have a lock?**
A: Triad lock , one of the strongest locks on a lock blade design to date... Which sometimes you'll get one that's a little harder to manipulate till it's "broke in"

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong, quality build, excellent value.
*by D***L on December 5, 2025*

This review is for cold steel's Finn Wolfe edc knife with green scales. The strong triad lock opens easily with a satisfying "click* and likewise closes with a solid "thunk." The knife is well engineered with quality build. It is ergonomic, fitting a medium or large hand well. The very sharp Scandia blade holds up well in hard use such as cutting wood. The knife is an ideal size snd blade configuration. It is a good value, well worth the$. I like the green handle and recommend this knife for hard use.
