## Description

From the manufacturer The Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Collection includes 6 of the most iconic screwdrivers featured in the Classic British Science fiction series. The set contains toy replica’s of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th/8th, 10th and 11th/12th Doctors Sonic Screwdrivers. Each has built in sound and/or sound and light effects. This is the perfect item for all Doctor Who fans and Collectors. The sonic screwdriver is a multi-functional tool used by The Doctor and like the TARDIS has become one of the icons of the programme, The sonic screwdriver was first introduced in 1968 in the story Fury from the Deep , and used twice more ( The Dominators and The War Games ) during the Second Doctors tenure. It became a popular tool for the Third and Fourth Doctors until it was finally written out of the series in 1982 due to the limitations it caused when writing for the show. It then featured briefly in the 1996 TV Movie before making a full return in the 2005 continuation of the series. Throughout the programme, there have been many different versions of the sonic screwdriver, as with subsequent Doctors the design of it has changed. It has also been destroyed on a number of occasions, thus leading to the introduction of the next model. Not all iterations of the Doctor have used the sonic screwdriver on screen; the Fifth and Sixth Doctors opted not to replace it after it was destroyed in "The Visitation’. In the Revived contemporary series the Sonic Screwdriver has gained abilities and functions way beyond its Classic series counterparts and the current version is a distinctly unorthodox interpretation in line with the Doctors premiere regeneration into female form. The 3rd Doctors Sonic Screwdriver During the Third Doctors time, the device underwent significant design changes. In the Three Doctors (1972–73), the sonic screwdriver is almost unrecognisable, being a unique, one-use prop with a plastic red spherical head because the original sonic screwdriver prop had gone missing during the recording of Carnival of Monsters (1973). This required a new prop to be built for the rest of the run. The original is also uniquely the source of an insurance claim when actor Jon Pertwee fell with it in his pocket and hurt his ribs. The Sonic Screwdriver at this point was very colourful with red and yellow banding and a black lined handle. The 4th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver During the first three years of the Fourth Doctors time, production reduced the use of the sonic screwdriver. Exceptions include Tom Bakers Debut story Robot (which was the last story to be produced by Barry Letts), where it was used to detonate mines, and as a "miniature sonic lance to cut out a lock. Aside from unlocking doors, the device was greatly downplayed during the Fourth Doctor's second and third seasons. It saw a resurgence in 1977. In the final story of season 15, when the Fourth Doctor conceded, "Not even the sonic screwdriver can get me out of this one.". By this time the Sonic Screwdriver was much plainer and had a magnet attached to the head to extend the emitter. The 5th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver The sonic screwdriver was written out of the series late in season 19, in serial the Visitation (1982). It is destroyed by a Terileptilto prevent the Doctor from escaping a holding cell. In response to its demise, the Doctor sorrowfully remarked, "I feel as if you've just killed an old friend." Later this was explained that this was done on the instructions of then producer John Nathan-Turner on the basis that a device that could get you out of any situation was very limiting for the script. The Tenth Doctor joked about the Fifth Doctor's lack of sonic screwdriver in the mini-episode "Time Crash" (2007), commenting that he "went hands-free" and could "save the universe using a kettle and some string." The device did not appear again for the remainder of the original series. The fifth Doctors sonic had a distinctive white band around the trigger section. The 7th/8th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver The sonic Screwdriver reappeared In the TV movie ‘The enemy Within (1996). Doctor Who had been off screens for nearly a decade and producers were keen to show as many of the iconic accoutrements of the doctor as possible. So the Seventh Doctor is seen to use it to lock the Masters remains in a Time Lord casket for transport back to Gallifrey. Later we see the recently regenerated 8th Doctor using it to repair the TARDIS console. It then reappears in “The Night of the Doctor” (2013), when on his final adventure the 8th doctor becomes the War Doctor. The TV Movie Sonic Screwdriver is similar to its TV predecessor but has a telescoping function and a button on the side of the handle. The 10th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver The 9th and 10th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver was designed to look like an extension of the TARDIS Console room, a trend that continued up until the Twelfth Doctors regeneration. It also featured for the first time a light on the end, likely to help the shows makers know when to add the sound effects in post. The original prop was a blueish grey ‘crackle finish’ effect mated with a polished steel and clear glass areas. The look changed several times and likely due to use and refurbishment. Its safe to assume this happened several times as the Sonic Screwdriver then reappeared in the 50th anniversary Episode with an all new handle in a yellow beige colour and new wire colours in the neck area. The 11th/12th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver One of the most popular Sonic Screwdrivers of all time belonged to the Eleventh Doctor. In his debut story the Eleventh Hour (2010), the malfunctioning 10th doctors sonic screwdriver is once again destroyed when The Eleventh Doctor tries to signal some Atraxi ships with it. The Doctor later receives a new one, which emerges from the newly regenerated TARDIS console. It is shown to have been created by the TARDIS as part of its automatic regeneration. The original Eleventh Doctor Sonic Screwdriver prop had a button located in the rear with a flip open section but it is never used. Actor Matt Smith was notorious for accidentally destroying or breaking his Sonic screwdrivers at an alarming rate. The Eleventh Doctors sonic screwdriver is distinctly larger than its predecessor; it has a green light and a metal section with claws that extend with a flick of the wrist.

Review: Fabulous Set of Sonics - I've bought hundreds of Sonic screwdrivers over the years and this is a great set! The 10th Doctor's one is sturdier than any previous versions. 12th Doctors has lost sound already but there's every chance one of my boys has got it wet!
Review: Perfect collection - Amazing collectors set. It nice to get all the sonics in one set. Great value for money. Perfect for any doctor who fan and collector.

Amazing collectors set. It nice to get all the sonics in one set. Great value for money. Perfect for any doctor who fan and collector.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worth Every Penny
*by A***Y on 28 November 2020*

There is only one flaw I could find. On the back of the box, the extended 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver has a yellow core in the tube but the actual toy has a black core. That is my only critique though and it did not disappoint me.
