Thx** A: the tip is like a ball point pin and because the stick is long and thin, can probably impale into something if dropped just right. **Q: How well does this clip hold up for deep frying and candy making?** A: The clip does not hold that well onto regular pots. it works well with my turkey fryer. For that purpose, they are 5-star. Response time and accuracy seem to be good (have no access to calibration equipment). Well built but because of probe length, handle with care for cleaning and storage. The temp scale of 550F is twice what I need to measure "done" on the grill, so resolution is OK; not great. If you wear glasses for close up, you'll need your glasses to read!
