## Description

The Ruby Hummingbird Feeder features a glass nectar bottle and a colorful red top and base with four integrated perch feeding stations. The built-in ant moat stops ants right in their tracks, keeping precious nectar fresh for hungry hummers. With a 10 oz. nectar capacity, the Ruby provides plenty of nectar to keep hummingbirds happy and coming back for more! The wide bottle opening and detachable flat base make filling easy and cleaning a breeze. When cleaning your hummingbird feeder, do not put your feeder in the dishwasher, as the high temperatures can permanently damage the feeder parts. Most expert sources discourage dishwashing because it may not fully disinfect any avian diseases. Additionally..

Review: Great feeder (replaced flowers) *WARNING*: Dishwasher heat will warp red plastic pieces!!! - Best looking feeder I’ve found that’s well made and functional. I originally purchased mine in 2023 and still really like it. ⚠️ WARNING — DISHWASHER HEAT: Do NOT put the red plastic pieces in the dishwasher unless you’re using a lower-temperature cycle. High water temperatures can warp and misshape the plastic. If you’re unsure, check your dishwasher manual for the wash-cycle temperatures. My Bosch has an “Eco” cycle that uses its lowest water temperature (113–122°F), which hasn’t damaged mine. The CrystalDry cycle (135°F) hasn’t damaged them either. 🌸 REPLACEMENT FLOWERS: I wasn’t a fan of the original flowers, so I replaced them with soft silicone ones from Perky-Pet. They fit this feeder even though it isn’t a Perky-Pet feeder, and their smaller feeding holes also helped deter bees. Unfortunately, Perky-Pet doesn’t appear to sell those silicone replacement flowers anymore. Nature’s Way DOES still sell soft replacement flowers that fit this feeder, though! They’re very affordable. You can order them directly from the Nature’s Way website (natureswaybirds.com), although you’ll have to pay for shipping, or use their store locator to see if a retailer near you carries them. 👩‍🍳 EASY HUMMINGBIRD NECTAR RECIPE This is the easiest large-batch method I’ve found because you only have to heat enough water to dissolve the sugar! You’ll need: • 1½ cups plain white granulated sugar • 6 cups water (tap or spring water is fine) • Large glass measuring cup (4-cup/32-oz) • 2-qt glass pitcher or jar with lid Directions: 1. Microwave 2 cups water in the glass measuring cup until boiling. For my microwave, it typically takes 5–6 minutes. 2. Stir in 1½ cups sugar until completely dissolved. 3. Pour into your pitcher and add 4 cups cold water. 4. Mix well, date the lid & refrigerate. This makes the standard 1:4 sugar-to-water ratio recommended for hummingbirds. Use only plain white granulated cane or beet sugar (hummers typically prefer cane sugar) — no honey, artificial sweeteners or red dye. Store extra nectar in a clean, covered container in the refrigerator for up to 7–10 days; discard sooner if it becomes cloudy or shows any sign of spoilage. IMPORTANT: Sugar water can spoil rapidly, especially in summer heat. Mold and fermented nectar can make hummingbirds seriously ill, so if you can’t commit to regularly changing the nectar and cleaning the feeder, it’s better not to put one out. A few hummer tips 🥰: • 🌡️ Change nectar immediately if it becomes cloudy or contaminated. Otherwise, temperature is a helpful guide: 60–70°F: every 5–6 days 70–80°F: every 3–5 days 80–90°F: every 2 days 90°F+: daily When in doubt, change it sooner! • 🍂 Fall migration/cool-weather tip: Keep nectar at a 1:4 ratio while it’s still hot outside. When daily high temperatures are consistently below 70°F, some hummingbird experts introduce a 1:3 mix for migration fueling. • 🧼 Clean the feeder thoroughly between every refill. If it’s not dishwasher-safe, take it apart so you can clean the ports and crevices where mold can hide. Rinse extremely well before refilling. Periodically disinfect, and deep-clean immediately if you see mold or slime. • ☂️ Shade/weather domes help keep nectar cooler, slow spoilage, and protect it from rain. Avoid placing feeders in direct afternoon sun whenever possible. • 🚗 Keep garage doors closed when possible, especially during migration. Hummingbirds can become trapped because their instinct is to fly upward while looking for an escape. • 🌿 If one gets trapped, a large leafy branch can give it a natural place to perch while you gently guide it toward the open door. This happened to us, and the tree-branch method is what ultimately worked. • 🚫 Never add red dye. The red on the feeder is enough to attract them. • 🐝 Bee stings can be lethal to hummingbirds, so if bees/yellowjackets take over, avoid yellow feeder accents and choose feeders with red feeding ports. Bees don’t perceive red the way we do, making red less attractive to them. Bee-resistant port designs can also help. • 🐜 Ant guards are SO much easier than constantly refilling water moats. I like Perky-Pet’s AntGuard because it doesn’t require water. Another waterless option is the BugSnub Hanging Ant Guard. And if you love hummingbirds, I HIGHLY recommend watching Hummingbirds: Jeweled Messengers, narrated by David Attenborough and available to watch on desertcart Prime Video. It’s fascinating and I learned so much from it! ❤️🐦
Review: The Birds Will LOVE It! - The More Birds Bird Health+ Ruby Hummingbird Feeder is absolutely beautiful and has been a fantastic addition to our outdoor space. The ruby red glass design is vibrant, elegant, and instantly attracts hummingbirds while also adding a decorative touch to the yard or garden. The quality of the feeder exceeded my expectations. The glass feels sturdy and well-made, and the overall construction is durable enough for outdoor use in changing weather conditions. The feeding ports are designed very well, allowing hummingbirds to feed comfortably while helping keep the nectar cleaner and fresher. One of the best features is how easy the feeder is to fill and clean. The wide opening and simple design make maintenance quick and convenient, which is very important for keeping hummingbirds healthy and returning regularly. Since putting this feeder up, we’ve had frequent hummingbird visits throughout the day, and it’s been wonderful watching them gather around it. The feeder holds a good amount of nectar while still being compact and attractive. Overall, this is an excellent hummingbird feeder with beautiful craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and dependable performance. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are there bee guards for this model?**
A: I have 3 of the models offered here: 2 Ruby, 1 Diamond & 1 Orion/Twist; I've never experienced any "bee" or "ant" issues. I take down my feeders every 3 days in warm weather, dump the remaining homemade nectar (the only nectar I use and without any food coloring) and thoroughly wash all parts, inspect for mold and air dry. Warm weather I do this every 3 or 4 days. Once with another hummingbird feeder I had ant issues but it had a holder that was staked into a flower pot...never used it again.

**Q: ant guard?**
A: The top is an ant moat. Fill it with water.
The feeder is the only one I use now. It does NOT leak, and the moat works, IF you fill with WATER.
Do not use any oily, greasy, or sticky substance anywhere near the feeder. It gets on their feet, beak, feathers, wings, and can be deadly.

**Q: How much nector is spilled after filling the jar and turning it over to hang the feeder?**
A: i usaully fill the jar to the brim, after capping the jar... i grab the top of the jar (plastic part with hook) then grab the very bottom of feeder (plastic part with flower sippers and foot parking spaces) turn right side up very quickly....and gravity will do the rest... have not lost a sip since i purchase the feeders... they love it !

**Q: Is the container glass or plastic?**
A: The clear part is glass; the red parts are plastic. The tag attached to the feeder says "BPA free." Also "No phthalates." I washed the plastic parts in the dishwasher before putting out the feeder the first time, and they made it through without warping. In the product description, however, the manufacturer says not to wash the plastic parts in the dishwasher (you can read that up there).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great hummingbird feeder
*by J***O on March 31, 2024*

I've got a pair feeders with metal bases. Dang things are all tarnished and rusty inside and out after only two seasons. So I got one of these. Love this thing. Seems very well made. Good fitment between all pieces. Base is fully plastic, so no opportunity for rust or corrosion. Cleans easy. I like the glass bottle as well. There's a reason this is the number one seller on Amazon. It's a great feeder. I have a high feeder in the yard and a lower one on a shepherd's hook type thing. The hummingbirds have always preferred the high one. I replaced the low one, mostly because it's easier to get to. The birds are definitely favoring the new one. I already have a second one in my cart. I hope this review is helpful to you in making your hummingbird feeder purchase. Take care. :) Update (May 2024): I don't know what it is with the darned flies this year in San Antonio, TX, but they are bad. They have been crawling down into the sugar water. Gross! Was trying to come up with some 3D printable or off the shelf solution and came up empty. So got to thinking about what may work. I have some 24G stainless steel wire. Chucked it up in a drill and twisted it to give it some rigidity. Cut little short pieces at a slight angle to make the ends sharp. Popped out each "flower" and each rubbery piece. Ran that little wire across the lumen right under the rounded rim of the purple piece kinda right at the white flower/purple rim interface) and clipped it. Uploaded a pic. Can see the newly added thin wire running horizontally across the port. Of course, was concerned the birds wouldn't be able to get their beaks into the good stuff. So filled them up a bit, let the fluid settle, then marked the fill line on the bottle, and waited. Good news, the feeders were getting hit. Better news, after an hour or so, the fluid level was noticably lower. Pretty happy how it turned out. Will see how it does to prevent the danged flies from getting in there. Still a five star feeded. Much more action on these than my old ones, but the access ports perhaps could be a little narrower or have a bug guard designed into them.
