    First Time DIY Bass

*by T***N on Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2016*

This was my first time doing a DIY guitar/bass project. With little wood working experience and some electronics experience, I was hoping this would be a good first kit, and I need a bass for the studio. The hardest part I found was placing the bridge and getting the neck screws to go all the way in. There was no instructions included with my package, so I had to kind of guess my way through with the help of a guitar tech friend. After all was said and done, the guitar turned out great and I just had to do a little tweaking to get the intonation right. If there was instructions, I would give this 5/5!

I have purchased and completed two of these now. They are OK, but they have some issues you should be aware of. The quality of the two bodies was widely different, one was good, the other had mistakes in the cavity routing and a big gouge where the passage for the bridge ground wire was drilled. Since I was painting I just filled it and used it. The solder job on the electronics is poor and amteurish. If you want to use an aftermarket pickguard don't drill the holes for the one that comes with it. You can figure out how I know. And the biggest drawback is that the pickup mounting will not allow you to upgrade the pickups without some major rework. Jazz bass pickups will not fit. Again, you figure out how I know. All in all it's OK, but if you want a basic kit to upgrade this is not the one.

everything is good except the pickups are not standard so its unclear if any other pickups will fit. Also the quality of the neck was bad. All the frets and the wood were good on the neck but the joint of the fingerboard and the neck was not well done and there were gaps of unglued space between the fingerboard and the neck making the fingerboard kinda warped looking and not straight. The body surprisingly is good mahogany so that is a plus.
