The center section of 40 inches is removable giving a a minimum length of about 80 inches. **Q: Can the saw be operated alone, like the Worx saw, the pole can be taken out, so the saw can be used as a "chain saw"?** A: There are only two lengths - with all three pieces which makes it 9 foot long, or with just the handle/battery section and the saw head at 6 foot long. I've used it on a few close to the ground branches, but it's not as easy to wield as a regular small chain saw. While you can reach some higher branches, you don't want to be cutting directly above your head. **Q: Why do they openly state its 15 ft reach when people that have purchased it says it’s only about 10 ft ? What’s going on Dewalt ???** A: I never really thought about it but I believe when they say it will reach 15 feet. When.you’re holding the Pole Saw straight up yourself.
